Replacing headlights

I went out and bought a set of the brighter headlamp bulbs made by Sylvania for my '04 Scab. When I went to put them in it seems that I have to take out the entire headlamp assembly. Is this true??

If not, is there any easier way. My paws are pretty big and I cant get them in behind the assembly.

Thanks for your help!!

If I remember correctly the owners manual says you have to take it out. Just need to take out 2 screws.

You do have to pull the whole headlight out.I replaced my turn signal bulbs and you barely have enogh room to get your hands in there. The headlights seem impossible to get to.

Thanks for all the replies so far!!!

I kind of figured I had to take out the entire assembly. I noticed at least 3 screws that need to be removed. One that is attached to a retainer that fits on the fender and 2 others behind a rubber like flap near the rad.

As far as the part number its Sylvania H13-XV/2 the 2 meaning that its a 2 pack. I got them ay Pep Boys. I looked in the parts book hanging by the bulbs and that was the number given. In small print you had the number 9008 under it. I was skeptical at first because I had heard that they were not yet available for the new '04 so I had the parts desk look it up and it matched.

They were $29.95 plus tax

these lights must be so new that even sylvania doesnt know they make em yet. All they have is the standard replacement listed on the web and in the catalog i have. Be intersting to see what the heck these bulbs are.

After my last post and reading the replies, I just went to the Sylvania website http://www.sylvania.com/ and didnt see that part H13-XV/2 listed either.
However, the parts book by Sylvania, that I saw with my own eyes had it listed and the parts computer in the store verified it.

I did think it was kind of strange that a big company like Sylvania wouldnt have their website updated.

I will post a follow up after I attempt to install them.

THANKS!!

I was looking for farther vision. I have never been real happy with the high beams. Never really thought they were giving me much more distance than the low beam. Some yes, but not what i would expect when compared to other vehicles.

Forget to add on my comment...after unscrew 3 bolts, you will need to "yank"(when to pull it out) headlight out but try take it easy and not to use too much muscle .

Thanks for the tip. Besides the 3 screws there are a couple push in type retainers that need some finessing but as you said dont use "to much muscle" to pull them out.

The install went very easily. The lights work well and there is an improvement in the distance that I am pleased with. One little thing that might take some getting used to is two perfectly formed very narrow beams of light that come out from both left and right sides. Aprox. a 45-50 degree angle.
Heck if the beam was wider you might think they were cornering lamps .

FYI, I know the part number 9008 has come up in reference to these lights but nowhere on the original bulbs could I find that number. I did see the number H13 on it and also if you look at the headlight assembly, directly underneath where the headlight bulb goes, you will see the number H13 stamped into the plastic.

Thanks again for the feedback!!!
