people riding in the box
people riding in the box
I always hear conflicting stories about this, i guess because the laws are different in other places (duh). I live in manitoba. it is my understanding that if all of you seats have a passenger in them, then it is alright to put people in the box? s this true? i dont wana get pulled over. thanks
I think it depends on the state/province. I have seen people pulled over in Utah for having people in the back.
In California I know that every single person in the truck has to have a seat and a seat belt, put some seats back there, kinda silly to do that though.

I was in GA, near Atlanta a few months ago doing some engineering work... and I almost swerved off the road when I saw a few guys sitting in the bed, going down the freeway... I had to a double take, since I hadn't seen in it since 1986-87 in CA....
For anybody interested

I live in Atlanta, and I believe the state law against riding in the back of a pickup only applies to children 16 and under.
Concerning seatbelts, pickup trucks have always been exempt from the state seatbelt law. There is a push to add trucks to the law, but this is meeting stiff resistance from the rural farm counties.

It is illegal here for passengers in a pickup box, common sense really ( no seatbelts ). It probably depends on the cops mood and if he feels like pulling you over for that

As for here in Tennessee, I haven't experienced this yet. But when summer comes, I'll be putting it to the test I suppose!

The only time I have been pulled over for having people in the bed was when we had 6 people in it the cop said we couldn't have more than 4 and they had to sit directly on the floor not on the wheel wells. other than that Arkansas doesn't seem to have a law against it.
When I lived in KY I reguarly saw Mexican workers pile into the back of trucks to work the farms, The police saw this and would turn the other cheek. In my opinion, I believe a ticket would be issued for any other situation. If this happened here in Massachusetts, you would be locked up and on the evening news.

It's my understanding that in Manitoba, you can allow people in the box of your truck as long as they are stapped in. Such as using a ratchet strap so they have something to hold on to.
