Thumbs down Hate...the...electronic...transmission!!

Ohh how I long for the good old days when the shift pattern was controlled by good old fashioned vacuum. These new electronic trannies just don't measure up!

I know all that electronic stuff is supposed to improve mileage, reduce heat to extend the life of the transmission, and improve towing performance by stretching out and delaying the shift.

But on two occasions I experienced a hard shift because of all that programming. It always happens when I'm in slow traffic, coasting with no throttle. I see an opening in the lane beside me, so I get on the throttle to change lanes, only because the PCM is telling the tranny to downshift at the same time I plant my foot, the result is a harsh upshift as it moves back into whatever gear it was in. Harsh enough that I feel it through the whole driveline.

When this stuff was controlled by vacuum and linkage you rarely experienced this. It just stayed in whatever damn gear it was in when you let go of the throttle!

I don't consider this a defect or warranty issue just the nature of the beast I suppose.

Well that feels better, just had get some of that aggravation off my chest.

I can handle a few hard klunks for silky-smooth shifts the other 98% of the time. You can hardly tell the tranny is shifting if it wasn't for the change in RPMs or engine noise... try THAT with a vacuum and linkage.

But over the long term are those klunks hurting that EXPENSIVE tranny or driveline?

When you’re in traffic like that next time, try turning off your OD. It will stop the transmission from searching for gears to abruptly.
