headlight protection?
headlight protection?
just wondering what people are using to protect their headlights this winter. i don't even want to know how much they are to replace if they get broken or cracked. i'm even more worried about the fogs since they're in the line of flying gravel.
is there a clear film out there? 3M maybe? i like those covers in the moss catalogue, but it says they are just for shows and not street legal. any ideas?

3M does make a protective film, not only for the headlights but there is also one to protect the whole front end and is almost invisible. I forgot where it can be found but a couple of others on here are using so I'm sure you will hear from them soon.
3M film, hands down. My bumper, headlamps, and hood are like it just came off the showroom floor after nearly 10,000 miles of evil Michigan construction.
On the flip side, for whatever reason we didn't get the headlamps covered in 3m film on our bimmer, and they look like total sheet (the rest of the car is perfect, it's protected by the film).
I'm sure you could find a person/company on the 'net to sell a little sheet of the 3M film to apply.

I allready priced out the 3m film for my truck and it will cost anywhere between $300 to $600 cdn to do the entire front end, including head lights and fog lamps.
I havent been able todo it yet due to factory defective paint on my truck that hopefully has finally been resolved.

check around for those headlight covers, they were made by GTS, but instead of the black smoked out ones (illegal), they also used to sell them in a clear version. That would help protect your lights legally if you don't want to try the 3M film.

There is an outfit here in Omaha that uses Avery over the 3M products (protective film). They can get PRECUT clear protective headlamp lens and foglight lens film for any car based on application. They are 4 times as thick as the regular film sheets. They worked great on my truck. I can put you in touch with them if you are interested.
I put the X-Pel brand, all four lights, on my wife's '03 Expy a few months back:

.....they're great. Took me about 30 minutes. Get them now while it is not 10 degrees outside!
I just ordered a pair for my new Xenarc lights on the '01 KR.
