I used a small can of Candy Apple Red paint from a hobby shop to paint the inside of some clear lenses and it worked great.

Brother responded and said that he doesn't know of any colored bulb supplier. His district uses plain bulbs and colored lenses or filters. Looks like 04 RED LARIAT found what you need!

Go to your local hobbie store ( Plastic models). In the paint section, they have a clearcoat red. Just dip the light bulb into it and you should be good to go.

Lightbulb Red Dome Lights

Was an Officer for several years (changed careers because you cannot survive on a cops pay). The best solution we found was to purchase a can of candy apple red spray paint at the auto parts store. Candy-type paints are translucent, unlike standard spray paints. Spray the bulb with 2-4 even coats. Allow to dry thoroughly between. The more coats the darker the red. Allow to dry a good 24 hrs, install, and enjoy. Lasts for years.

The closest thing we've done is with the plug-in lights for the in car computer. The boss doesn't let us modify the car too much. With the light we took a sharpie marker and colored the lens. Since the small light was constantly being touched, I figured it would wear off quickly, but it didn't. If you do the same thing on the light lens instead of the light bulb it should give you what you want. The red film should work well also.

If you go to a theatre supply shop they will have gels for changing the color of lights. All you would need to do is cut off a piece and put it around the light bulb.
