Bought Back Trucks
I was thinking about posting the very same question
I would guess that they would be turned over to some engineers or techs to be used as 'guinea pigs' in working toward a solution to a particular problem(s).
Just my .02 cents worth,
Scott

I think the terminology at the auction varies with state laws. The "program car" thing can extend from my understanding even into manufacturer buy-back vehicles. Sometimes, they put them into service at dealerships just long enough to become "program cars" and probably lease-returns as well. Never ever felt comfortable with auction vehicles - even Ford's private auctions. Driven a few of those and so far have not found a one that didn't feel many years older than it's actual age and odometer reading.

I worked at a G.M dealer In the middle 1980's . I wondered how they bought the cars from a dealer's aution with only 7k to 11k on them and sold them out as Brass Hats. Great discount's but they did give them remainder of the factory warranty but hey 12k max then. They would not last on lot and you would never see them again.
Buy Back?!?
They will have a different title. A manufacturer buy back title to be exact. The rep. at Frod helping my now said I had to send her this and that so they could apply for this title for the vehicle.
So in other words, it's kinda like a salvage vehicle... Never be worth the same as it doesn't have a clean title...

Auction
If these trucks are going to an auction they might as well show up here and that's bad.
If you run a carfax on the vinnumber will it show the manufacturer buy back title?

i don't think carfax would have any info. The Jeep i traded in my deal for my new truck had been in two accidents in a two year
period ( both minor ) but both where repaired thru insurance co.
and had the vin # attached too the repair logs. and carfax had no
info other than my payoff with Chrysler.. in short carfax is clueless
and a waste of time......

Carfax will depending on the state the car is titled in. I guess some states don't classify buy backs (so much for having a lemon law if it can be sold as a normal vehicle, huh?).
They call it a "lemon" on the title check.
However, I don't agree with Carfax being a waste of money. Two minor accidents aren't going to show up. They are minor accidents and happen all the time.
If the car is totalled or in a flood or has an odometer discrepency it WILL show up. Thats whats important to me if I was buying a used vehicle.
