Musty smell from AC

Wonder if anyone else was experiencing this....when i turn on my AC i smell a really musty smell for 30 seconds or so and then it tends to go away......I'm just worried that the unit has a puddle of condensation in it and growing mold.......is this something that I can B**** to the dealer abaout? thanks in advance!

I have the same problem but have never bothered to investigate it any further, might ask the dealer at my next service.

AC

Has anyone ever had a car that didn't do that? Or a home heater that didn't smell like burnt dust after it fires up for the first few times of the year... I would consider that "Normal Operating Char."

The problem is condensation, almost all cars have it.
The condensation turns mold, and thats the smell.
Solution...put the vent, just outside air, no a/c, on high, then spray Lysol deoderizing disenfectant into the vent were the hood meets the windsheild. This will kill the mold growth.
Do this once a month or so and it should stay fresh.
You need Lysol because it kills germs regular sprays dont.

From experience when living in Daytona, running the a/c with the windows down or fresh intake on, in high humidity, will give that old sweat sock smell.

Don't run the a/c with windows down, recirculate the air instead of fresh air, and try the Lysol trick.

Mine does it too. Doesn't bother me too much, but I'll probably try that lysol fix.

On a side note, none of my other cars have smelled as musty as my truck.

Also before you turn off the a/c and get out, turn off the a/c, and let the vent with just outside air run for 3 or 4 minutes, this will prevent the condensation from building up.
