F150 Xl Or F150 Xlt

Does any one know the difference between the suspension in the specs for the 2004 F150 XL and F150 XLT? Both front and rear. If so please respond. Thanks.

Pretty sure the suspension is the same between the two.

The suspension is identical, the only real difference is how they are set up. The XL is designed to be more of a fleet truck while the XLT is set up more for the comfort of a daily driver. You know, load up the family and make that 21/2 hour drive to the cabin.

I looked in the big 2004 f150 information brochure/book that I got from the dealer and it does indicate that the suspension is standard for all models. It is listed as "Front: long-spindle, double-wishbone coil-over-shock".

Anyone wondering about specifics on the f150 should go to ford and get one of these books. It is full of specifications, not to mention alot of pictures of the truck, mechanical, interior and exterior. It's served me as a reference guide on occasion.

I see that most of the trucks are on a trim level and drive train upgrade . The most of all is the basic trucks are the same.

I would think the ride comfort comes primarily from the seats (more spring, more cushion etc)

If your suspension question is in regards to weight capacity, I think the differences are in body style (reg cab vs SCab) and if you get the upgraded suspension package

Tbird69 thanks!

I need to convert the buck board fleet ride to the 2 1/2 hour ride to the cabin. I have added michelin P255 LTX tires and Rancho RSX variables, but still have a lot of highway vibration it seem its worst at 75 mph. Where would the best investment to smoth out the ride be? What do you mean by the the "set up"? Thanks again!

regardless of if you have an XL or an XLT your truck should ride smoothly (within reason as it is still a truck), that is one of the largest plusses for the 04 F-150 is its nice smooth ride. Even the XL should ride smooth and if its not I would take it in for warranty service, if they give you the run around, ask to drive other XLs to see if they behave the same. You might have the dreaded vibration (use the search function to find other threads about it and suggestions) and if so its still a warranty issue. Other than the cloth or leather covering them the seats in the XL to Lariat should be the same (if you have the 40/20/40) split bench.

fatman66/response

Thanks for your reply fatman66. I bought the F150 Heritage. I'm not sure you could tell by my question. The dealer has told me there's nothing wrong with the ride. I agree with you that Ford trucks usually provide a smooth ride. This one is not smooth nor does it absorb any road blems well, every little crack in the road you feel.

I didn't get that you had a heritage, but your dealer sounds like he's full of it anyway. Good luck getting that taken care of, try another dealer and see if they say its normal too.
