Question Lariat AND FX4? Did I see this right?

I was driving home today and I saw the strangest thing. It was a pre-2004 supercrew F150 that had both Lariat and FX4 badging.

I couldn't believe my eyes so I thought I would check with the experts and see if you thought I was going crazy.

I remember that some of the late 70's and early 80's F150s had both the F150 and Explorer or Ranger badging. Ford later decided to use these names for their own separate vehicle brands. Could this be the same thing?

I Agree

I never really paid it that much attention myself, but the first time I saw one a year or two ago, I thought someone just went and got the decals and put them on their truck. Well, as it turns out, I was WRONG. They (FORD) infact do make them and I had to tell one of my buddies I was wrong too, because I called BS on it. Hopefully you didn't talk too much smack like I did.....:-)

Ford used to make the Lariat FX4s pre-2004. I think the FX4 is now a trim package instead of just an option, so you cant have both now.

Correct. Ford now uses each individually. Before the "FX4" package was available on Lariats. 04 was the first time when they used them seperate.

So i solved the problem, I got an 04 Lariat and an 04 FX4! lol

in pre 04s the FX4 was a trim package. It replaced the "4x4 Off Road" package. Which was skid plates, larger tires, 3.73 gears etc.

Same as STX. Also a trim package but for 4x2's.

Reminds me of a buddy of mine that was bragging about what a great deal he got on a 2002 Z-71. He paid thousands less than a Z-71 was going for. About 3 months later he started having some trans trouble and the technician realized it was missing something. Come to find out, the dealer ship had badged several trucks as Z-71's and they were just 4x4's. He threatened to sue the crap out of them and they bought it back. They told him that they would replace the shocks and install the skidplates to make it a Z-71, but he refused. Hes now in a FORD FX4!

I rememberd this from some time ago.

97cobraguy's truck!
Allow me to share my story about those stinkin' side badges.

My 04 FX4 came through with a Lariat badge on the left front fender. Dealer ordered the right one, dropped it off to get it fixed.

After the "mechanic" dented my fender trying to pry it off, they called in a company called the dent doctor. They simply heated the badge with an industrial heat gun (taped off the surrounding paint first) and it just about fell off. He then fixed the dent and it looks like new again.

Don't pry on it!!!!

It's probably already been mentioned in this thread that prior to '04 you could get the FX4 option on a Lariat.
