jivins,

I shudder and then sigh whenever I see another oil related thread posted in this forum. It's a legitimate question, but one that is sure to get you a bunch of differing opinions. A lot of the oil related threads wind up in the "threads gone bad" category.

Ford recommends Motorcraft 5W-20 (semi-synth) for the 2004 F-150s. Some people swear by full synthetics and some say they are a waste of money...but I really don't want to get into that debate. As long as you purchase oil that you are comfortable with and it meets the specs outlined in the owner's guide, you should be fine.

J&D is right... use whatever the hell you want. However, if you don't want your engine to ceaze up or blow apart, you'll use Mobil-1 0w20. Other oils are recycled parts from the slaughterhouse and hurt the planet (and puppies). You don't want to hurt puppies now, do you?

If you don't believe me, use the search button to find a wealth of info on the topic of oil types/grades/changes/baths/whatever...

EDIT: J&D - I see you added my cat kickin' quote... Top notch.

jivins, sorry if I put you off...I don't want to discourage you or anyone else from posting. You can search just this forum alone and see a number of earlier threads with people's opinions about oil and their trucks, then you'll see what I mean. (Some of them follow the same pattern as some of the political threads in the GD forum...uh, on 2nd thought, may not that bad.)

Later,
John
