Help Running Cables/Wiring
Im wanting to install my strobes and siren and LED's but im trying to find the best way to route the cables from the power and for the strobe cables, the firewall doesnt have many places to do it, i found a rubber plug that has nothing going through it, but on the other side of it is what i think the exhaust manifold, so thats not good, too hot, an the rest of the grommets in the firewall are in wierd places which wont be good with the amount of cables and stuff im gonna put through it, i found one grommet on the driver side which has the cables for the tail lights going through it, and pretty much the best place i think so far, now i want to know if anyone knows of a better place to go through , and if anyone knows how to take the ashtray assembly out (that whole part that pops out when you push it) so that i can put a hole in the back of it so i can put the switches thier, and if you can recomend a place to put my power pack for the strobes and for the siren (both about 6" x 5"'s and about 4" tall, please let me know where you think is the best place to go through for the cables an for the best place to put the powerpacks, i was lookin under the truck an figured if i go through that side grommet, i could just take the strobe cables an go over the fender liner to the fogs headlights an stuff, an then for the tails just run the cables next to the loom for the taillight wiring. please let me know the best way to do it! i asked in other forums already, but they havnt helped much
I don't really have recommendations for where to mount your strobes/sirens, as I have never done an install like this before. However, I can help you out with your ashtray question and possibly a place in the firewall to run wiring. To remove the ashtray assembly (assuming you have the flow thru console), you have to remove the dash trim piece. There are 2 nuts holding the ashtray assembly in place behind the trim piece. I believe that they are 5.5mm. Just remove those and pull up and out on the ashtray. For wiring my stereo system, I went through a plug in the firewall that was just behind the brake pedal. I don't know if this will work for you, but I have had no problems so far and I think it has been at least 5 months now. Good luck with your project. Sounds like a cool setup.
When I ran my power for my Amp I had same problem. I got a tip that worked pretty well. If you look at the passanger side front and take off the step plate that covers all the wiring going to rear. Up toward the front there is a rubber grommet in the floor.
Take this out and run some wire down through it to help you find the hole under the truck. It should come out just behind the front right wheel well. If you have aftermarket Nerf bars it will be right above where the bars mount to chassis in front. I ran my power through this hole and up through back side of wheel well to the battery. Worked out nicely since the battery in on the right side anyway. I had a hard time finding the hole the first time and had to have someone send me a picture. Let me know if you have problems.

On mine I found an unused plug on the passengers side firewall. If you get a flashlight and look right behind the battery at the bottom corner of the PCM modual you will find it. Remove the plug and the glove compartment inside. Get a very stiff wire and fish it from the engine compartment, through the hole to the left and sightly down. From behind the glove compartment look for the wire in the firewall insulation. It might help to have someone move the wire back and forth to help locate it.
If you look in my gallery you will see that I mounted two Amps behind my rear seat on the back cab wall.
Hope this helps.

well i looked up under my pass side dash today an was surprised to find all that stuff in their, didnt expect all that wiring an stuff to be in their, guess it was a good time to find it lol, but are you saying the hole is in the glove compartment? or behind the glove compartment, the hole has to be big enough and out of the way to let hrm how can i compare it, basicly two 0 guage cables through....

The hole is in the fire wall in the location I described above. To access the pull wire you fish through it from the engine compartment you have to get in behind the glove box...so remove it. I currently have #4 going through there and there is room for more.
When you open the glove box you should see two stops at the back that keep it from comming out of the dash and dumping your stuff on the floor...just flex them enough to allow it to do just that. Then you can get behind it.

That hole was plenty easy to find. But I get I set myself up for that one.
