?'s about lift and tires
?'s about lift and tires
Ok guys, I need your help. Im going absolutly crazy trying to figure out what lift and wheel/tire combo I want to go with. I am most likely never gonna have it off road. Maybe on the beach if I can bring myself to subjecting my baby to all that sand. I do however, do a lot of highway driving and when I do its long distance. Therefore I dont want to decrease my ride quality nor do I want my gas mileage to go to 10mpg.
With this being said its obvious the 6" and even the 4" lift is out of the question. If I go with the Rancho 3" will that look ok with the stock tires and rims or at least the same size tire and rim if I were to get new ones?
Would I have to go with a bigger wheel with the 3" lift ?
OR..
Should I go with the daystar and stock wheels?
Can I put bigger tires (taller and wider)on with the daystar and not have to recalibrate the speedo?
Ive seen different answers to this question..but what is the actual size of the original tires on the FX4?
What size tire is this..325x60x18? Is that a 33"
Thanks for the help in advance guys as I know you will all come thru for me. And sorry for any duplicate ?'s as i'm sure alot of this has been addressed here but im too tired to sit here all night and search. I fished all day yesterday and im paying for it now..
Hey TUFF...20 Blue fish, 5 Tuna and 2 Bonito in the boat, plus a few others that got away..you know "THE BIG ONE"

You'll have to re-cal the speedo no matter what. THe lift doesn't matter, but the tires do. Use this to see the diff: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
I just slapped on the daystar and really dig it. The truck sits nice, and you can jam some 33/34s underneath. Should be just fine for a city slicker...

I have yet to change out my wheels/tires. Mainly, I cannot decide what to get. So many to choose from! Currently, I'm leaning towards a 20" wheel with 305/55s. What's holding me back? Added weight and a possible sacrafice of ride comfort. *sigh* What to do what to do...
The weather has sucked all week so no pics yet. I'm leaving town tomorrow, but will try to get pics Sunday or Monday.

I hear ya. I like a 20" wheel also, but just cant decide.
Hey, on that site you sent me is there a place that tells you what size the tire is..ie: put in the 3 numbers and it will tell you if its a 33"or 35" or whatever? Did I just miss that part?

Hmmmm... wonder how these nitto's would fit:
LT325/65 R18 34.88 diameter. http://www.nittotire.com/tires_terragrappler.asp. But they need at least a 9" wide wheel. Stupit stockers are 8" I believe. Phooey.. but at least you'd won't get a stiff ride like some 20 or 22s.

I wonder
I know theres a few guys here who have the 325/60-18 one has daystar and the other has skyjacker 3"
I wish I knew a good tire guy that would do tire changes for me until I found the right ones. That would be cool

I just went through what you are going through Brewdude. Money was holding me back. I ended up with 305/55/20 Nitto Grappler tires mounted to Centerline Crossfire wheels. The wheels are on sale at Centerline and I went with them because.... Spun Forged. They weigh about 29 lbs. ea. (way less than cast wheels). For every pound of rotating mass is like putting 7 lbs. in the bed of your truck. I was suprised to find out how much the braking distance increased because of higher wheel weight. These wheels should weigh roughly the same as stock (not sure what the stock wheel weighs). Check this link to see them on a truck. Ron in sales at Centerline owns the truck. http://www.centerlinewheels.com/phot...uck.php?id=450
Brew,
It really comes down to cost. A daystar is the most economical, then the skyjacker 3" then the Rancho and Procomp 5-6"
The daystar will get the most stock look and take the truck level. The skyjacker will make the truck look a little different, but IMO only when next to a complete stocker.
The 6" lifts WILL look like a lifted bigger truck. And put a huge dent in your wallet. My Procomp cost me a little over $3000 including tires wheels and labor.
Some guys do keep stock wheels but when you go to a bigger tire you should go to a wider rim.
Maybe if you give us a little more of what you want out of this we can help.
I didnt have $3k to spend right away so I bought part by part until I could afford to get it put in.
Just make sure you get what you want.
There are several guys with pics of the 6 and 3 and daystar lifts.

Just to add to the mix, my truck is going into Camburg engineering in the next week or 2 to test their new coil over for our trucks. I'll be running 295/70r17's. The c/o will be available next month.
