My truck is going to the dealer for three things.

1. Switches heatin up on the drivers side door after use. And NO the switch lights are not on (dealer question)

2. AC likes to squeal a little and the compressor likes to make noise every 5 seconds that can be felt while going down the road.

3. My tailgate straps are differnt lenghts. How can this be?

My struck has had the straps changed out. It is not the straps... Something is out of whack... Not sure what they can do, but I have seen many, many trucks without the strap problem.

My AC unit has 22 ounces of fluid in it... It should be 30+ They fixed this and the compressor doesn't cycle as much.

 

I really think this strap thing is blown out of proportion. On a scale of 1 to 1,000, the strap length on the tailgate ranks at about 949.

 

I guess if your truck had it, you would want an answer...

My question is, if new straps don't fix it, and there is not really an adjustment, what do they do to fix it???

 

My truck does have it, but it's so minor that it doesn't matter. I just figure that the nub on the right bottom of the tailgate hits the top of the hole before the strap can fully extend and the weight on the left side goes down a little further because there's no nub.

 

Never had this problem myself, although if the switches aren't lighting up, that's not good.

My A/C was slightly undercharged from the factory by about 8 ounces. I drained, swept and recharged and I haven't had any problems since. I never noticed any unusual noises or excessive compressor cycling. I've noticed a lot of undercharging in SUVs with front and rear A/C systems...there's TSBs floating around on Expeditions where they leave the factory with exactly the charge required for front A/C systems only when several are equipped with front and rear units. I guess the same folks charging Expys that day were charging F150s.

So are mine. Truthfully, unless the tailgate falls off the truck, I'm not worried about it.

 

Quote of what another member said. Torsion bar assist is most likely holding that side of the tail gate up a little. This making it look as if strap is shorter. Take them both off and measure them

 

My straps are the same length. They have been replaced. Something is tweaked a bit...

Not all trucks look like that = not normal = Ford needs to fix it... I don't care if they have to replace the whole damn tailgate... It will be right...
