5.4L Redline
5.4L Redline
Hello, Does anyone know the redline of the 2004 5.4L engine? I was passing a car and I hit about 4750rpm and the tach goes to 7,000. Where is the redline at? When it drops into a lower gear and hits the high rev will that harm the engine at all?
Thanks,

Before I put the Superchips tuner on my truck it would always stop at 4900, now in first and second it goes to 5400 RPM. You should probably get it looked at soon. I am pretty sure it will hurt the motor spinning up that far.
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. The motor won't go past 4750 rpm but the tach can go all the way to 7000. My question is why doesn't the truck go up to 7000 rpm. Is it because it would damage the engine? Sorry for not being clear on my previous statement. What kind of chip can get you more power.

Jansen...I think if you ever got your engine to run up to 7,000 rpm, you would be at the shop putting a new motor in it. Why does the tach read up to 7,000???I have no idea other than maybe for looks,,who knows.
I work on boat motors and the outboard motors are running up to 6,000 now. Total different set up and all. If you ever heard a 2 stroke outboard at 5500 to 6000 rpm it sounds loud and nasty. If you didnt know any better you would swear a piston was about to come thru the block.
WOW...to think of my 5.4 running up to 7,000...ouch, that hurts just to think about it

Since my tach does not tell me what the engine redline is, does anyone know? I ask because according to the specs the engine produces 300hp @ 5000 rpm (tach reads up to 7000 with no redline). Some mods can get you to 5400 rpm. Is this safe?

Yes, it is safe. In fact, my dealer told me that these trucks do rate 300HP @ 4900 rpm. However, they put out 315-320hp at 5600rpm. That is why you need a tuner man. It will set your shifts at 5400RPM which is much better and keeps it safe too.
Ford de-tuned the new 5.4L for fuel economy, engine life, tranny security etc. However, by tuning the engine up a little doesnt really take any life off of the engine.

Get the superchips programmer, you will LOVE it if your looking to ad some power. I swear it feels like a totally different truck. I went through troyerperformance.com to get mine (if you go through them, call them and they have a SWEET deal for members of f150online).

As soon as the bank account starts recovering from the massive dent that the F150 put in it, I'll be modding soon. I just wanted to see what was safe. Thanks for all the help and any additional info will be appreciated.
