Superchip 1714

Well I received and installed my SC1714 today w/ the High Performance (91+) tune and... WOW!!! There's definately a difference.

I've had chips in two other vehicles and honestly most of the performance gains I "thought" I picked up were probably mental, but this time there's no joking around. THERE IS UNDOUBTABLY MORE POWER.

I do have one question for you guys who've had yours for a few days. I feel the preset shift firmness is a little too firm for normal driving. If you edit the preset tune you have the option of X to 20 PSI over stock and then "Superchips". Is the "Superchips" setting above 20 or is it somewhere inbetween the other choices.

Another thing I noticed is on the preset high performance tune I think I hear the belt slipping on a WOT 1-2 shift. I changed the 1-2 shift pressure to 12PSI over stock and I don't think it was still slipping. Either way I think I'm going to order the Goodyear Gatorback belt and while I'm at it I may as well get the underdrive pulleys.

Good choice. I did the tuner, belt and pulleys all at the same time. Can't believe it's the same truck.

How hard was it to install the underpulleys and belt? Did you do the two pulley set up from Troyer?

yes, I went with Troyer. I had a local shop that works on that stuff install the pulleys for me. Even with their equipment it took them 3.5 hours to do it. Granted, most of the time was removing and re-installing the fan gurd and such. The timing chain houseing also needed to be ground down slightly.

Belt slip. Interesting. What would cause that? Pardon me if this has been answered. I have the 1714 and haven't noticed that, but my driving has been minimal since install.

I currently have all 3 of my shift pressures set to 12PSI over stock and have no problems and am still overly satisfied with the shift performance.

The reason the belt is slipping is because of the VERY FAST change in RPM during a shift. Especially now that the engine can wind out far past the normal shift point.

Obviously when your engine changes RPM so does the accessory belt. Just say the truck shifts out of 1st gear at 6000 RPM and then goes into 2nd gear at 4000 RPM. (Just an example I don't know off hand what the #'s are.) The 2000 RPM difference takes place so quickly that the belt slips.

I had this same problem when I installed a turbocharger on an old 5.0L and the Goodyear Gatorback solved the problem. They are very high quality belts.

Another thing.

I have a heavy 4X4 SCAB fully loaded. I currently only have the Superchips tuner and an exhaust. I believe that with an intake, e-fans, and u-drive pulleys that I could get something else slipping during a 1-2 shift... THE REAR TIRES!!! Yesterday the rear tires broke loose during a 1-2 shift after it rained so with a little more HP and torque I think they'll do it on dry pavement.

Called Troyer, By the way VERY NICE FOLKS!

They were able to answer most my questions about the turner.

One question has me concerned though:

If my PCM was updated in April, will I need to send my tuner in for an update? I see that folks that have had their PCMs updated then try to tune but run into problems and have to ship it off again for an update to the tuner.

I guess the ultimate question is, has anyone had their PCM flashed and been successful in tuning with that updated PCM-flash?

Thanks,

-f2f-
