DIY Roll-On Bedliner

I want a spray bedliner in my 04 F150 but I wanted to know if anyone had any opinions/experience with the Do It Yourself roll-on bedliners that come in a paint can at AutoZone etc... I also saw it in a Jeep catalog. They are like $100 a gallon I think.

After assisting a family member do his truck some years ago, I can only assume you'll end up with a very amateurish, botched job as we did.

The 395 I spent on Line-X is a great investment and looks great. I have seen some people that use the "do it yourself" products and it does not look that great..... think it may just be the texture/uniformity of the coat that makes the difference.

Never used the roll on myself so I can not attest to the durability of it.

i used the same stuff but it came in an aerosol (sp?) can. i put it inside my fenders and in my tool box for sound deadening/sealing and it worked pretty good. it is no comparison to the rhino lining in my bed tho! best advice would be to save up the extra money and get it done by the pros.

I know a few people that used the do it yourself kits. They weren't very impressed with it when it went on. Within a month or two the stuff was peeling off even though they never really put anything in the bed. I would advise you to spend the extra money for a Line-X (which is what I had installed) or Rhino-Lining.

A good use for the DIY stuff would be if you don't have (or want to) spend the money on the full liner. Some that I have seen is my brother has a bedmat in his truck, and he rolled on the Herculiner stuff onto the sides and back of the bed, but not on the bed floor. It came out really nice, we did three coats of it, and when done right, it can actually come out to look really good. If I had some pics of it, I would post them, but unfortunately I dont. I would save up for the spray in though if I planned on putting alot into the bed, but his truck rarely sees more than a four wheeler in the back, so to him it wasn't worth it to travel the at least one hour drive each way to have the truck sprayed. I may have mine done though when it gets here!

pepatric - Where did you get the billet grill?? Is it the standard bolt over factory design or did you have to do some mods to get it installed? It looks clean - I like it!

Thanks!

Rhino Lining - $300. Love it. Lifetime warranties make it all a preference.

my bro used to have an 82 F-150 and he did one of those DIY bedliners. it was a Herculiner and it turned out as good as my dads spray in., if not better. i wouldnt risk it, i know id screw it up though. ill leave that for the pros when i get my truck. i know people that will do a spray in for really cheap too. im talking under $200 (buddy works at a place called Truck Stuff and does a lot of side work)

My wifes 04 has the rhino liner, and it is very nice, thick and looks great. My 97 has the Herculiner, and for what I wanted it was fine. The 97 had a bed mat, and I was tired of listening to it flop around. There were also quite a few scratches in the bed. I decided to go with the Herculiner based on the price, and the fact that at the time it was a 5 year old truck, and I didn't really care what the bed looked liked, as long as it had some sort of non skid surface. I use the truck pretty heavily, and was even using a pitch fork to get some cut up tree branches out of the back. It is starting to come up in places, and seems to be wearing thin in others. I think the Herculiner would be fine if you really don't care too much about the look, but just want some sort of non skid, and something to cover up the scratches. If I was doing it again, and could afford it, I would go with one of the spray in liners.
