I got to tour the Hapesville Assembly Plant where the Taurus and Sable are built when I was in high school. It was pretty enlightening, both from seeing how cars are actually screwed together and seeing how things are, uh, "adjusted" at the end of the line. One thing that stood out to me, as finished vehicles neared the end of the line where they're gassed up and driven to the area for the rolling test, there were a handful of employees looking over all the different opening panels on each car. If something seemed a bit out of whack, they'd take a ball peen hammer, smack the offending latch or striker a few times and recheck for fit. Makes me laugh everytime I see a Sable at work now where some panels just don't quite fit right.

Yes, it is $14. $10 for Ford employees. 2 movies, the observation deck, a short safety video then you're free to roam the factory for as long as you like. I believe the last back to the Henry Ford (which is where it starts), departs at 5:15. No private vehicles allowed on the property. You HAVE to take the bus.
