BFG vs Nitto

I was all set on getting BFG All terrain T/A 285/65R18 with a 2.5" daystar leveling it on my 4x2 supercab Lariat. Then after reading posts for hours ran across a guy who put on Nitto 285/60R18 with the 2.5" daystar leveling kit on his 4x2. Now I'm stuck on which tires to buy. I don't want to fork out the money for new wheels so help me with the descision.

Here's the web site for the guy Nitto's...sorry I don't remember his user id...(thanks a lot though!!...Great site!!)

I want a bigger look for my truck...do a little off road driving so if any opinions about wear, look, problems, anything would be great. Thanks

That would be GordoPanocho's truck, and basically all I can tell you is it is going to come down to a preference between blackwall tires, or white letter tires. I personally prefer the white letter BFG's, but I don't think that you can go wrong with either tire, the decision in the end I think is going to come down to preference. Hope this helped.

Just keep in mind that the 285/60 18 Nitto's will not be as tall as the 285/65 18 BFG's. Having said that, you can get a 33x12.5 18 metric equivalent in the Nittos if you really want them in a 33" tire.

Anyone else notice the "C-wire" strung high around the dealer's lot? Must of bought his truck in the "nice" part of town.

You might not be able to find the BFG's I've looked locally and on a national basis! What I've been told is that the 285/65 - 18 is on backorder for the next 2-3 months.

I am going to wait! This will be my 5th set of BFG A/T's and I have had great luck in the past. 60,000+ miles with regular rotations & watching air pressure.

If anyone knows where I can get my hands on this tire, please let me know.

DiscountTire.com. I can't say they'll have it, but they're the best in my area as far as getting tires in, good pricing, and really good service.

Now, the BFG's appear cheaper on TireRack.com. They are listed as "back order."

BFG & Nitto

I had the BFG 285/65/18's on my FX4 , then a few months down the road I noticed an air bubble in my sidewall on one of the BFG's, obvioisly a defective tire. Unusual have had a lot of BFG TAKO's in the past but discount tire could not find me even one tire to replace. The manager who is a friend told me he could not even tell me when to expect it to come in. I replaced with 325/60/18 Nitto grapplers and truck looks much more aggressive. was worried about rubbing due to wider tire and slightly taller, but no worries. Went ahead and installed daystar just for looks- not tire clearance. The nitto's are every bit the tire the BFG is and not every dude with a truck or suv on the road has them. Have 12K on mine and seem to wear great with rotation. I am a black wall out guy so white letters don't make a difference to me. Good luck!

blackstallion, you have two (2) 4X4's!?

If you only have the leveling kit, I'd love to see some good/bright/clean/close-up pics of Nitto 325's on your truck. But, what rims are you running? Of course, you do have a 4X4, so you're already getting extra room for tires over what I have with my 4x2.

Thumbs up

Actually, I have bought three 2004 F-150's.
Bought first one because could not wait on one that was special ordered any longer. I did not get everything I wanted due to not waiting. So, I traded it in on a supercab. But, I decided to sell it to father in law because I neede crewcab due to baby on the way. I am a very impatient and impulsive person. Anyhow, I loaded some pictures of my current truck on my gallery. There is a good picture of the Nitto on the stock 18" rim. I will take some close ups when the rain stops. BFG pictures are on the original black screw.
