amp location

Has anyone put an amp behind thier rear seat back. I am thinking about it. I wonder if there would be any heat issues with such a tight area.

I've got one behind the back seat....although I don't have pictures of it yet. I've had it in about 2 weeks, and so good so far.

I'll edit this post and put one in tonight, er sometime.

Do not put them under the front seats. People will kick them. I have tried it before and always had problems. Put it behind the rear seat or even under the rear seat but do not put them under the front seats.

I put mine under the front driver seat but it doesnt fit all the way, so I made a box of the same material as the sub box so the amp is protected and covered. Since i dont have kids and usually dont fill the scab and my seat is back all the way, it has no effect on space. But my amp for the door speakers is smaller so its under the passenger seat completely with a kick panel in front of it to protect it.

The amp will stay plenty cool behind the rear seat. It actualy has more air flowing through there than you think. If you do come across problems with overheating, i would say it was gonna happen no matter where you put it.

I have a good question for all the electronic savy people.

Is it ok to put the amp in your speaker box?

[edit] You would think that the air in the box (if it is ported) would help cool the amp....amybe?

one problem with putting it in the box would be that it takes up some airspace and also if you need to adjust it for any reason you would have to pull the box out and take it apart to change it.

Just my .02 cents

Dido. If you want to put the amp in the box, flush mount it to the side, front, or top.

g2oofy82,

I put my amp under the rear seat on the hump. I couldn't get the back of the rear seat off even with all the help on the forum. I prefer it under the seat especially if I need to make adjustments to the gain etc.

That pic was taken with the seat moved all the way forward. The seat is all the way back in normal operation. With the seat all the way back, my 6’4” son still has enough legroom that he has never asked for the seat to be moved up. You’d have to have a size 24 + shoe to maybe kick it!

If you are putting your amps under the rear seat where are your subs. I still want to be able to use the backseats. Also i could put them where the jack is and elocate that, but where to?
