I have 2000 mi. on my FX4 reg. cab and I am getting tired of washing the front wheels off all the time, does this ever stop?

This from another 2004 F-150 forum:

I'm thrilled to death...no more break dust...Installed the Porterfield Kevlar front brake pads....did it myself in 40 mins...2 bolts out, snap the old out snap the new in, replace the bolts...DONE. They work absolutely great...not even any sign of brake dust. Wake up Ford!!!!

Had them on 150 mi. approx or 1 week...I called them @ 949-548-4470 or www.porterfield-brakes.com They were very helpful on the phone....as I could not find the right part # on the site

My '03 Lightning doesn't have the brake dust thing. My '02 Mountaineer does'nt. I bought a '04 Escape for my daughter and it does and my '04 Fx4 really does. Why do some have it and some don't?

My 02 F150 sport had break dust prob. realy bad. So far my 2004 XLT 5.4 does not, hardly any break dust at all. Now my wifes 03 mazda 6, all you need to do is start the car and the wheels get dirty.

Just turned 10,000 miles and the brake dust is significantly reduced. Still worse than my '99, but much MUCH better. Hang in there.

Thanks for the responses. I talked to Ford at the 800# this morning and they suggested I wash the wheels weekly with a Ford car wash product. Gee thanks Ford. I currently own 5 Ford vehicles, been loyal since 1991. When I bought this truck, I didn't even look at others. Brake dust, poor throttle response, vibration, etc. I will be shopping and looking at brand X. Thanks again guys. Good luck with your trucks.

Just wondering if anyone else here has tried these pads out? How have they been performing?

I didn't buy these brake pads, I was just quoting someone from another forum, so I can't really answer your question, dude. Sorry!

After 12000 miles the dust is less. I only wash the wheels once a week.

Well, I decided to give these Porterfield pads a shot. I just ordered them today. Hopefully they'll be here by this weekend so I can install them myself.

I'll probably create a new post to share my results, but if someone wants to buy them now, I found a source slightly cheaper than what those guys were paying on that other message board.

Contact this guy:
Jerry Blackwell ( Jerry@BRVRaceSupply.com )
BRVRaceSupply.com
http://stores.ebay.com/BRV-Race-Supply
602.284.9913

The part number is AP-1011. His price is $89 shipped. The other message board guys were paying $112 shipped.

I too hated the dust on my wheels. bought a set of Kleenwheels dust covers for the inside of my wheels. they work great. I get zero dust now.

yeah, as I noted above, I ordered those new brake pads a few weeks ago. I put them on about 2 weeks ago. I was going to wait and put a new post up here, but here's my review.

After about 300 miles so far, the brake dust is significantly reduced with these new Portfield pads. My front rims are no longer black after a week, and my white letters on the tires are still white too. on occasion, I hear a faint squeal, but maybe that noise is coming from rear brakes?

overall, I'm happy with these new pads so far.
