People with the rear end shudder...

I have the shudder when i start from stop, i had it in and they greased the spline and slip yok, also said the spline was wore a bit, but i was wondering, for those of you that have had it, did it get fixed, and how? I suspect its the clutch pads to hard to absorb the oil, but im no mechanic, the ford mechanic tested the clutches in, by doing something with the wheels, and said it was good...?*&$

My dealer kept mine for a few days, then replaced the clutches, no questions asked. Shudder gone

I had the same thing. Mainly when the truck is cold. Worse when turning from a stop, but it eventually got to doing it from a stop with no turn.

Told my dealer (service advisor) and they immediately told me there was no fix for the rear end vibration, that they were aware of it and they were waiting for Ford to tell them what to do. I told them it was not that vibration, but what I described above. After she rolled her eyes and sighed heavily several times she got someone who actually knew what the hell he was doing. We went for a quick spin in the truck (never left the lot) and pulled right back in, he told her the clutch packs needed replacing. She sat there and stared at him. They went behind closed doors for about 45 seconds and when she returned, she had a totally different attitude. They scheduled me an appt for 7:30 the next day, Enterprise gave me a truck while mine was being worked on, they called me at 1:30 and told me it was done. No money out of my pocket. The dealership is about 3 miles from my house, so it wasn't a hassle.

I wanted to kick this chick in the junk when she came off all offensive. This other guy pretty much handed her *** to her when we got back. I laughed.

I just started noticing the shudder problem with my truck after 3500 miles. I never had it before and I considered myself lucky. Now I notice a small shudder when I hit the gas to go from a complete stop. Sometimes I feel it when turning. It's not real bad but not sure if it's going to get worse. I think I'll wait to have my dealership look at it when I take it in for the 5000 mile service.

Anybody else notice this problem after not having it for the first couple of thousand miles?

I'm noticing it more and more on mine, and I have over 9000 miles. Going to take it in soon to fix that and the steering wheel shimmy/nibble.

mxz600,

I assume you have the 3.55 or 3.73 Limited-slip... Did you have the clutch packs replaced with the updated versions? That fixed most of my shuddering problems while turning. I now have a more general "not smooth" (not really a shudder, vibration, but more like a feeling of something locking together and engaging sort of) feeling when starting from a stop (color or hot). The dealer greased up the splines on the driveshaft and that made a noticeable difference, but now 2-weeks later, it's coming back.

Mall of Georgia. I will never, EVER deal with GPF.

Are you having the same issues with the shudder?

FYI, I didn't have the vibration until after 5,000 miles. I didn't do anything about it...it wasn't that bad. I had just turned 9,500 miles when it became unbearable. I actually thought the damn rear end was going to fall out!

Sounds like that chick at Mall of Georgia didn't do so well either? Other than that, do you like their svc department?

I caught this girl on a bad day. She is normally really sweet and remembers me (and my dog) by name everytime I am in there. She recently (two weeks ago) had surgery and had only been back about 2 days when I went in. I have never had a problem with them that wasn't solved. Their sales staff is one of the best, the service department is clean and their techs are well trained. Their body shop is one of the best in Georgia.

I handle auto claims for State Farm, and we are CONSTANTLY using them. I wouldn't recommend anyone else but them. STAY AWAY FROM GWINNETT PLACE FORD.

I had the rear end shudder as described above by mxz600.

Dealer had my truck overnight, and when I got it back, the shudder never reared it's ugly head again.... That was 3-4 months ago.

They replaced the Clutch Packs, and there "IS" a Ford notice on this. Please search for my previous Threads on the topic of Shudder.

I have noticed that it kind of shimmy's off the line sometimes especially when I am turning a little bit. Seems pretty minor but the steering wheen kind of shakes also? Is this what you guys are talking about?

I once thought that rear end shudder, steering wheel shimmy, and body vibration were separate issues. My truck exhibits all three. I'm now thinking they are all symptomatic of the same illness -- a bad design!

Nope, just a Clutch Pack.

If it was just a clutch pack, why did my dealer, upon recommendation of the Ford Regional Engineer, replace the steering rack and driveshaft?

But things could be worse. Would I have taken the same $30,000 investment during April 2000 when Ford stock was commanding $54.75 and bought 500 shares, the same shares today would be worth $7445 (disregarding dividends and taxes).
