How do I ..........??? Any suggestions

I just had an "Undercover" tonneau installed and now its going to make it tough to wash the top of the truck.

Before, I would get in the bed and do the roof. That was even hard to because its a scab and it was tough to reach the front.

Any suggestions on how to wash this now that I do not have access to the bed?? The people who installed claim it could support my weight but I really dont want to take that chance.

Any suggestions??

TIA

Just don't stand in the middle of the undercover (you'll place the most stress on the cover by standing on the weakest point). Stay to the edge and you'll be fine. That's what I would do if I were short and couldn't reach the top (hee hee... sorry, I'm 6'10")

To wash and dry the top of my Scab, i open both doors, grab the hand rail in front of the door and wash 1/2 of the top, and windshield, then shimmy to the back of the truck and while doing a balancing act do the same. This truck is alot taller than my previous 01 F-150. Its a race to dry it off before the dreaded water spots appear.

Stilts ?!!

Seriously...I keep a small pair of folding steps in the back of the bed....I think I got them from Wally World for a few dollars.
(The sort you keep around the house to reach top shelves...not a full stepladder)

They only have 2 steps but it's just enough to raise me up (And I am 6 foot), to easily reach all the roof.

Otherwise if I can't be bothered to unfold the step I do as anaheim suggests, but the step really is easier !

It's all about the TLC.

Never taken any of my trucks to a carwash, except to rinse of the salt in the middle of winter, and never will.

Same here. Sometimes when I just need a quick wash or to wash salt of in the winter I'll go through a NO TOUCH car wash.

Those automatic car washes that have brushes that touch your vehicle just scratch your paint to hell... especially black.

Guys, I'm just trying to stir up some trouble. Carwashes are murder on the paint, the no-touch ones are usually worthless. Even if they don't scratch the paint, the friggn people working at these places drying the vehicles off couldn't care less about the paint finish. Nah, step ladder is the only way to go.......though the stilts mentioned above sounds kinda cool....

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!!!!

Yeah, stilts would work great. Get a pair like the Sheetrockers/Spacklers wear and you would be getting the job done with ease. LOL!!!

I ended up using the step ladder. In fact I think it worked better then when I stood in the bed to do it.

This is the second time I have washed it in just under two weeks since we got it so I need to work on a system to do the job. The first time it seemed to take forever, this time it went a bit quicker.
I would like to get the job done in about an hour. Top to bottom including cleaning the glass and wheels and tires.

I wonder how long it will take to wax?? I plan on doing that after having it about a month.

Thanks again!!!

For washing the roof or tonneau covers, this product is a must have. I'm on my second one and panicked when I couldn't find it in retail stores. The original was called a Shiwala and came with a long handle. I found another mail order product called "The amazing car mop" and it comes with a telescoping handle. For mail order you can look here.

There may be other sources. With this product you don't need a ladder and it is soft and won't scratch. Try it, you'll like it!

The Shiwala was what I was going to recommend. I only use mine for washing the top, and windshield, of my SCab and my wife's Explorer.
I am using one of those Mr. Clean Car Wash Sprayers so I stand in the bed of the truck, spray soap all over the top, soak the Shiwala with soap, and start scrubbing. Works well.

On my 99 Scab, I did like anaheim does, open the truck doors and stand on the edge to get half at a time. On my new Screw, I have Westin steps that I stand on to wash half the roof/windshield at a time.
