Something I've noticed about this board...
I too chose the XLT, pretty much based on price, and it had all the options i needed. I do really like the looks of the Lariat, the chrome grill, the alloy wheels and the trim around the wheel wells.
At times the only option i now wish i had are the back-up sensors, it is really hard to judge when backing in due to the tall sides of the bed at times.

I went with the XL model 4x4 for work and play and I couldn't be happier with it! Tough to beat the look of some of the fx4 trucks you guys own though!!!!!!!!

I went with the full loaded XLT, which is exactly the same as the FX4 since with a lift all those "offroad" options get yanked off. I might have went FX4 but I got the only black 5.4L 4x4 3.73LS in that the dealers could find in the DC area at that time. I cant claim to be a 4wheeler lifted truck with woodgrain interior and tan leather seats, but thats just me.
XLT SCrew
My two mian requirements were: 5.4 3v and Dark Shadow Gray.
Lariats do not come in gray. I am very happy with mine. I have a 99 XLT SCab 5.4 Flairside that my wife drives. I like it, too. I have absolutely no reason for an FX4 as my truck NEVER gets off pavement.
bajabenedik, how much did the chrome surround cost? I can live with my colored surroiund, but the chrome looks good, too.
I agree that the XLT may the best truck to customize. I have installed quality sound systems including speakers and subs. Nerf bars, spray-in linings, wood dash kits. My one problem is I must have the only XLT without factory fog lights. My bumper does not have the cut-outs for the fog lights. 99 F-150's have the fog lights in the neoprene section of the bumper, easliy cut. I had to get non-Ford fog lights and put on either side of my license plate on my 04. Also, I have the premium cloth bucket seats. Leather is ok, but not a "must" for me. Towing packages are a "must" as they have transmission coolers and large heavy duty radiators, good for Texas, and are on both trucks.
I am the only Ford truck driver in my family. All the others drive Chevys. I love to go family gathereings and park my F-150 where it can be seen by all.

04 XLT Here...
I went with the 04 XLT SCAB trim also, this will be my 3rd XLT, and I still cant get the grin off my face everytime I get behind the wheel.
I love the 5.4 with the 3.73 LS, big upgrade over my 1999 and 2002 XLT's.
The factory fog lights realy are a nice touch, glad I got them.
I do however have to do something about the way the tail sits up in the air, but my concern is towing my bass boat ( about 3,000 pounds total package weight )
Any suggestions?
thanks
