floor mats with the "spike"
have you guys used the floor mats that have a "spike" to anchor them to the carpet?
will it make a hole in the carpet?
can they be removed after that? (i would assume so, for cleaning)
can they be used without the "spike"
i saw some really nice carpeted floor mats in the cabela's book but they have the "spike" anchor, which makes me kinda worried.
what do you guys think?
thanks

oscar_a_wiggy,
My Nifty CatchAll Xtremes came with "spikes" or plastic "screws" that could be used to attach them to the carpet, but I never used them. They fit well enough that they don't slide around, plus I want to be able to remove them quickly to clean...and I didn't want to put holes in the carpet (although they probably would not be noticeable after the spike is removed). It may be that even though some mats come with these spike, you don't necessarily need them.
I recall someone posting that instead of using the "spikes" to hold their mats in place, they used velcro tape on the underside of their mats. They affixed the "hooks" side of the velcro tape to the underside of the mats to grab onto the carpet fibers. That might be an alternative idea to try if the mats are prone to sliding around.

My factory ones have it on the driver side. I would go this way every time as it keeps the mat locked in place... never slides forward under the gas pedal... no matter what your driving style is.
The plastic screw threads into the carpet fibres and backs out with a little coaxing

Ditto.
I wish it had more than one. Sometimes mine has a tendency to slip after a while on the side with no 'spike'. I am talking after getting into and out of the truck 20 times or so. No big deal. It takes 2 seconds to adjust it.
I got the rubber floor mats from Ford that have the F-150 raised on them. One of the better purchases for the truck.

Definitely, check out the CatchAll floor mats. I agree, by the way, they look like they fit the contours perfectly; you probably won’t have to use the anchor screws. I’ll know first hand in a day or two, because I ordered a front set of the CatchAll Xtremes for my Screw.

I have the Catchall xtremes. They fit very well, not much room for them to move around. They do not have any raised ribs on top for your feet to catch on, so they stay put. I did not see any need for anchoring them to the carpet.
I have the Nifty catch-alls as well. The front mats don't need them. I glued in the caps that cover the screw hole. In the Scab I used the screws. They bite into the carpet, but if you back them out, you can't really tell there was a screw there unless you look hard. You use a regular screwdriver to take them in and out. I find they help in the back to the mat from moving around.
LOVE the catch-alls.
