Unhappy decontened ford

why has ford cheapen their lariet models pickups?
they took away the lariet pinstrip and the body mouldings
on the side of the doors. they also removed the key door lock
on the passenger door.
i have a 1996 xlt pickup that has more trim than the 2004s.

It was all done for looks, IMO. Gives the truck a more stream line clean look. Remember this is the ''all new F-150", can't make it look like the older models and call it all new.

My Lariat doesn't. Whats the reasoning behind some having pax side key holes and some not?

The new F150 is by far the best looking truck of all the 2004’s. If ya like the older style, that’s OK but I don’t think cheapen is the right choice of words when referring to the Lariat or any other 2004 F150.

Some things are victims of budget cutting measures.

Other items are not 'gone for good' but, were purposely backed off the 2004 model.

Ford puts together a new model and then backs off items because they have to sell that same vehicle again the next year.

Just a couple of examples:
How do you tell a 1999 from a 2000 150?
(No drivers side grab handle)
How do you tell a 2000 from a 2001 150?
(drivers dash cubby hole is gone)

From '97 to '03 every year it was some piddly stuff.
I'm surprised the 2004 had as many bells and whistles as it did.

Did I understand correctly that some Lariat's have a passenger door key holes and some don't? Why would that be?

I’ve never seen a Lariat with a key anywhere except the driver door. Basically, you don’t need it on the other doors.
I want to know, where is the light under the hood?

i still don,t see why ford at least could put the lariat pin stripe
on the new trucks. you can,t tell it from the xlts without
looking at the f150 decal on the side of the truck.
i am just saying for that kind of money ford should
have been glad to put it on to show their best truck off.

go to pep boys and spend $5 and get a whole roll of pinstriping.

This has got to be the cheepest thing they put on the truck.

It sounds like you are more worried about everyone else knowing you drive a Lariat.

do people still stick the key in the door anymore?

I haven't done that in 8 years.

I thunk and I thunk and I thunk..........

All I can come up with is that all Lariets have keyless entry, where it's an option on the XLT. I guess Ford figures if you have keyless entry, you don't need a key lock on the passenger side. I wonder if XLT's with keyless entry have the passenger side key lock?
