Has anyone heard this noise?
I noticed today that my F-150 has a whine that starts about 60 and gets louder at 70. If I let off the gas, it disappears but starts again just as soon as I give it gas. Anyone have any ideas? I am working 7 days a week right now so I cannot take it to my dealer until I get back on my regular hours. Maybe when my wife carries it in next week for my 3000 mile checkup and oil change they will find time to look at it. I have not noticed this noise before today.

My truck made a winding noise until I could not stand it anymore so I took it in and they had to order two different parts to fix it. I am sorry I do not remember what it was but if you have trouble from your dealer getting it fixed, let me know and I will send you a copy of the paper work I got from the shop. Do you hear it when you are just sitting idiling? It is kind of quiet right. have you noticed how loud the A/C compressor is when it kicks on or is it just mine?

Did they just agree to do the ring and pinion or did they follow the procedure in the workshop manual and go for a test drive and follow the rest of the trouble shooting guide ?
Just ondered as I have the same thing but between 45-55mph, but loadest at 50mph, will wait till 6k service and mention it then (2weeks).
Rick.

i dropped it off in the morning with the following description and with 3000 miles on it:
"at 68 miles an hour there is a howl in the rear of the drivetrain. Let off the gas the howl goes away. Get back on the gas and it comes back".
That was the extent of the conversation.
I picked it up in the afternoon with a new ring and pinion. It was raining so bad they could not hear if this fixed it or not (really bad thunderstorms yesterday).
I drove it into work this morning and this did indeed fix the issue. Now I only have the normal noises of wind noise and tire humming. It is a very quiet ride - that is most of the reason I got the truck (coming from a 2001 mustang cobra vert)

My dealer looked at it today when my wife carried it in for an oil change. They said there is definetly a whine and it sound like it is coming from the rear end. I have to set up a time so they can keep it a couple of days. They told my wife there are some new ones on the lot that sound the same and there is probably nothing wrong with it. I will let everyone know when I get it back.

This is my first experience with this particular service department and the service department was great - fixed this issue on the first try on the day I brought it in for my appointment.
I have typically used another service department on my previous Fords but I never liked their service group that much, even though they are closer to my house.
I live in Houston so if you want to know who I used, private message me.
