Question Black or chrome running boards?

I ordered my truck Saturday and now I need to decide on the accessories. I got a bright red scab xlt short bed. Any opinions
on which looks better with the red - black or chrome running boards? The bumpers are chrome so I'm leaning that way although they are $200.00 more. Anyone got any pics of either? Thanks.

I agree, chrome is the way to go. It adds a lot of continuity to the trucks with chrome bumpers

Chrome all the way. Not only do they look better but they hold up and do not show scratches like the black ones.

Since you're getting an XLT with chrome bumpers I would say go chrome just like everyone else.

I've got a Red/DSG Scab FX4 with black tubes, simply because I thought the chrome one's looked out of place since nothing on the truck is "chrome". The only shinny stuff on my truck is the aluminum wheels, but I've got the 18" FX4 wheels which actually have DSG painted on them. I think the DSG painted on the wheels helps hide some of the break dust also.

I have black ... but that's because my truck is black. For you, I would suggest chrome! It'll look a LOT better. But, you're paying a premium by getting them through the dealership! Buy them aftermarket. I suggest looking for Westin Platinum series on ebay ... such as these for $370 total (no tax). You can install them yourself ... nice and easy!

I have the black running boards. Its on my STX regular cab, so it should give you an idea.

I've been wondering what the chrome running boards would look like. I think the chrome one would stand out more. I may have to get the chrome.

RedSTXMan,

IMO, chrome boards would clash on your truck. You have nothing chrome on the truck so you're right they would stand out more, but IMO it would be in a bad way. The black looks good on your truck because you've got black elsewhere on the truck to balance it. I might be wrong but I've always been one that tried to keep the flow of my vehicles consistent and matching. Just like now, I've gotta get a black diamond plate toolbox because I've got black running boards, and my old aluminum box would just stick out like a sore thumb. Or maybe I'm just way to picky?

I prefer the black nerf bars I have on my red 99 SCab flairside and I prefer the chrome ones on my 04 Shadow gray SCrew. The red SCab has a lot of black and little chrome. The gray has black, but the paint is metalic making chrome look better (see grayflare, above)

Check ebay for descent prices for the nerf bars. Chrome and black both.

I bought mine on ebay from DealsofSteel.com
They were very inexpensive and the quality is great and matches Westin perfectly. You will easily save 100 bucks with them. I have had them about 3 months now and the shine and look is amazing. I hear there are a couple other good vendors on Ebay as well, just go by feedback ratings.

Re: Black or chrome running boards?

chilipad,

ultramaxer21 brought up a good point about RedSTX' truck. Chrome would clash with his truck cause their isnt any CHROME on his truck.

SO, with that in mind. Will you have some chrome on yours?

The only chrome I have on MY TRUCK is the wheels. I have the Chrome nerf bars cause it seems to flow with the truck. If I had black bars there would seem to be sorda a "blank" look. Make sense?

Not to thread hijack, would the black nerf bars make any difference on my truck? I found them on DealsofSteal.com for 119.00 dollars.

The running boards have a feeling of being left outside of the truck while the nerf bars would seem included into the truck. It seems the nerf bars would make the lines of the truck smoother. I don't know maybe I'm crazy. [/hijack]

Running boards

If you have chrome bumpers, get chrome.
I have painted bumpers and black bars, but if I had chrome bumpers I would have chrome bars.
