Fuel Concern?

Just found the first F150 SCrew other than mine runnin' around town. His name is Dan. He has an '04 Lariat with about 1500 miles on it.

He does a lot of driving on highway... I asked him what he is getting up here and he said that he is also getting 13-14 mpg with mostly highway running.

Is it the fuel up here or should I relax a bit because someone else in this city is getting the same fuel economy?

It's kind of a relief knowing someone else in my town is getting the same...

Yellow,

If the fuel quality is suspect then everyone should see bad mileage, right? Ask around of other drivers you know, not just F150 drivers, and see if they think their mileage is worse than it should be.

I just talked to a friend that has an 02 SCab and he is getting just over 15 on the highway. Keep in mind, he has the old body and motor.

Yellow,

For a comparison I had an 01 extra cab 4X2 5.4 and it got 16 mpg around town average. It could be the gas. Have you tried going somewhere else to buy gas? Maybe another town?

Couldnt make it out of town without refueling huh? It might be worth finding out for sure whether the gas in another part of the state and a different brand station might be different. Just a thought.

Not at a high elevation are you? I am starting to grasp at straws here but everytime I see your name I wonder "what could it be"

Yellow, thats about what I was getting. My exhaust seems to be helping a little now. Also, speed plays a huge part in highway mileage because of wind resistance. Try decreasing speeds by 10 mph and see what you get.

Yellow,
Sounds like you may be on to something there. I can up to 2 mpg better on the gas bought outside the Dallas area because of the non polluting additives.

You will get lower mpg with winter gas, and the winter gas may be worse in MN. If you're getting 13-14 mpg with mostly highway driving now, in July you will probably get 17, and if the winter gas is even worse in MN you may get 18mpg in July. They should be switching over anytime now.

If I keep my lead foot under control I have been getting close to 17 and thats a combination of highway and city. I always buy my gas at Costco or Sams.

No true comparison

I don't think you actually have any comparison there. The term "mostly highway driving" is far to ambiguous to use for a mileage comparison. One persons idea of "mostly highway" can vary greatly from anothers. There also could be other differences like rear end gearing, 4x4 vs 4x2, vehicle weight as used and your own and his own right foot. It's my understanding that it's cold up there in your neck of the woods....do you warm up the truck before you drive off....does the other guy? Remember you are getting zero mpg when sitting still.

I've got 10000 miles on mine and it consistently gets 13.7-14.1 mpg. I never drive the speed limit, usually 5-10 mph above, I don't complain, it's just a FORD. I had a 2000 scab prior to this 2004 Screw, it got 12-14 mpg. I bought the truck for its dependabilities that I never got with Chevy's....

I get on the average about 13.4 MPG its not city and its not highway its 21 miles of back roads to work. If I wanted 15+ or better I wouldn't have bought the 5.4 and 4X4. Remember its a the best truck out there there is nothing better except a F250 Diesel but I can't afford the service every 3K miles and the extra 6K for engine and auto tranny.
