Thats a mighty fine looking exhaust you got there! But I might be a little prejudiced.

Does anyone have pics of this system with the side exit tips? I had a side exit on my '99 and really liked it.

ristuccia tomorrow ill be putting some duels on mine aswell. are there any tips on getting the stock exhaust off. ive taken a look under there and it looks like id would be pretty hard to push the whole thing back off those rubber grommits or whatever. any advice would be apprechiated

ristuccia, my recommendation is to make sure you lube those grommets really good. WD-40 works, but I would use something with a silicone base.

Hope this helps.

Does this Borla kit come with tips that have rolled edges? Or are they a straight cut?

I kinda like the look of the straight cut myself...

When I installed mine i used my tire iron to pry the old mounts out of the grommits. I didnt use any oils at all just a little force and they pop right out. saw it on two guys garage. worked great for me. hope this helps and good luck.

eauclaire what is this used for? (11/16" Deep Well Socket (for leaf spring bolt)17mm Socket (for leaf spring nut). Getting ready to put mine on tonight and was curious what these were (thought there was only one clamp bolt to undo).

P.S. Not going good trying to get this damn stock exhaust off.

lanceparkhurst, I put the Borla on my truck too. I used one deep socket for the clamp before the muffler inlet to remove the old exhaust. I think it was the same size for the new muffler clamps. For the life of me I don't remember these "leaf spring" sockets. There is one bolt which you need to install for a hanger near the leaf spring. Maybe thats what eauclaire is talking about.

Let me know if I can help anymore.

eauclaire,

I love that built in dog leash holder on the front of your truck.

The exhaust looks great. I would love to put one on mine but have a fear of a windy sounding exhaust.
I had flowmasters on my 02 lariat for 1 day and took it back off because of all the wind sound in the pipes. I would like to find a sound similar to a mustang gt or somthing along those lines.

What kind of sound does this system produce?

Looks great. Did they change it any, looks like ti does not hang down as low on yours as it does on others, just behind the differantial.

Thanks for the help Zoltan that is what he was talking about (the lower leafspring bolt must be unscrewed and a bracket put in there). Took awhile to get the old off but the new went on great. Haven't had a chance to drive it yet but I'm sure all is well. Good helpful thread, thanks.

Sorry I wasn't able to reply in time, Lance but it seems you got it figured.

Red Lariat, Yeah the dog hooks work great for corralling the hyper-puppy.

The sound is terrific, it's not too loud, there's no drone on the highway, and definitely no windy sound. Just the proper tone for a V-8 powered truck.

The AEM V2 Air induction kit for my wife's Accord V6 is louder than my exhaust...
That's one fast wammer jammer now... I can't wait for AEM to release the Brute Force kit for our trucks.

RMills, yes they did change the crossover pipe. Gordon Merrill has some pictures of the older style where the crossover pipe hangs much lower, but I can't seem to find that link at the moment. I think they raised it up so that it's about at the mid point of the pumpkin. No ground clearance issues at all.

Found the link: http://www.gordonmerrill.com/truck/pics.htm

It also appears that the older kit puts the rear hangers on the frame and not on the leaf spring bracket.
