The Dodge Ram is a 4X4, with 4:10 rear end. The owner tells me today that he also has a K&N air filter in the truck. That's it. Clem - I agree, I dropped the gas pedal (the vertical one on the right) I did not get any drop into a lower gear. But thanks for the condolenses. Robcee - I'm with you, more performance parts are coming.
I never said I wanted a race truck, but would have liked to puff the chest out when it was all said and done.
To all the others...I'll let you know what the foot doctor says...I see him today at 2:00.

I wouldn't race my truck at a stoplight anymore than I would fill the backseat of my Mustang up with gravel.

A friend and I were returning from a water rescue meeting tonight (He has the 01' Dodge Ram, I have the 04' Screw.) As we got onto the highway he pulled up beside me at about 55 mph. We gave the usual man vs. man look and we both dropped the pedals. What a mistake for me. He pulled away without batting an eye. Several times we did this and everytime it was like I was sitting still with the parking brake on. Now I have the 5.4, and I'm sure he has the "Hemi", but I at least thought it would be close. I truely need to find more performance out of this Screw. Then maybe next time I'll have my revenge.

I have a V6....and I beat a Dodge this morning (V6 vs. V6)....

NOW, I dont have My Truck for performance reasons. It's just a work truck. I'd have to call it luck.

Also, how many miles you got on your SCrew? I noticed a big increase in performance after my first oil change (I have about 4500 miles on it) and the performance seems to be getting better.

Just my 2

Agent86, my thoughts exactly. But then I'm old at the age of 26 or maybe I just want my truck to run after my payments stop.

I raced a 2003 Chevy SS with my 2004 Scab FX4 and did quite well I thought. About 1/4 mile he was only one maybe 1-1/2 lengths ahead. The guy driving the SS was really impressed because he said he has been smokin every stock truck out there except one. Yeah guess which truck beats him? I'm pleased with the power it's a major improvement from my 01 Supercrew 4x4 with the 4.6L, that might be the slowest production truck ever!

I am a Ford fanatic. I love Fords and have driven specifically Fords when I have had the ability to make the decision. Here is the but. Chevy trucks have always been faster. Tougher, NO! Better looking, NO! More dependable, NO! Dodges, until recently, have been sucking hind teeat, and were nowhere close to either Ford or Chevy in any category. I guess my point is, the Ford trucks have never been the fastest. They have always been the best in nearly every category, and could be the fastest if the Ford engineers wanted (or needed) to use that as a crutch. These are trucks. Ford has always had the best products, and therefore has been able to design the motor to work best at lower rpm, where it would work best in a truck. No other truck has had the immediate off idle "grunt" or torque that the Ford has always had. Faster is not always better, I guess that is why I am putting an Air Raid intake, Superchip Tuner, and Edelbrock exhaust on my truck.......
Well said! Ive driven alot of new(er) trucks except the Hemi. Chevys ARE the fastest truck pretty much, but they are extremely light duty. Dodge falls in the middle, but theyre horrible gas pigs and not all that impressive. Fords, theyre not the fastest (stock for stock) but they have the best working power out there. Period.

I raced a 99 Dodge, shortbed half ton reg. cab 2wd with a 318/auto from a dead stop once. I launched around 2,000 rpm's and scratched a little off the line. By 85 mph, i was 2-3 truck lengths on him and he was still heavy into the throttle--i just kept it on the floor till about 100mph. Toast. However the last time I was rolling thru Memphis I pulled up beside a Z06 and revved him at a stop light....he just toyed around with me and never got above 1500 rpm's

I have to admit I saw one of those Dakota R/T's with the 5.9L V8 (360??) and a powerdyne blower make less RWHP and only slighty more RWTQ then my N/A bolt on LS1 Z28 Camaro. I thought it was pathetic. Bear in mind I know nothing about the guys other mods or tune becuase I never asked but watched him dyno at a dyno day event.

With everything else being equal, 4.10 gears will out accelerate 3.73 gears every time. If a 3.73 gear outran a 4.10, now that would indicate a stong running motor.

I have a friend with a 2001 Durango with a 360 in it. We've raced on the freeway a number of times and all I see is him falling away in the rear view mirrow. Mine is a 2001 Supercrew with a few basic mods on it. His has only an FIPK on it. I'm sure I weigh more than he does.

You guys crack me up.

One day I was towing a 30-foot (8000 Lbs) boat with my Ford GT when a Dodge Viper pulled up next to me towing a 30 (7800 Lbs) boat. I stomped on the gas but he beat me.

So I look at him and suggested that we take this to the track with a real racing car. I drove home and warmed up the new 2004 F150 and met him on the track where he was driving a 2001 Dodge 1500 truck. I said are you ready to race that truck like it was made to do and he said lets go.

You get the picture

its a TRUCK NOT A MUSTANG.....

50k miles from now I will race any Dodge to the repair shop...as it will be on the back of a flatbed. A Chevy will beat me though, since I will have to wait for the people admiring the looks of my truck to get out of the way and, well, obviously the chevy won't have that problem.

I cant blame you guys for falling victim to aftermarket promises, and to be honest you can spend your money any way you'd like...but please don't kid yourself into thinking that spending all kinds of money on exhaust and K&N filters will provide you with any real, or even noticable, power. It won't. Put an exhaust on your truck cause you like the way it sounds, not so you can keep up with some idiot trying to race you in his Dodge.

Here's something to put it all in perspective.

I'm just about finished building a 5.0 for my 86GT.

It has Trickflow Heads (2.02 valve), a Trickflow .500 lift cam, a GT40 intake, blah blah blah...anyway, once in it will increase my peak HP from 200 with the stock engine to 300-325 with the new engine.

That 125 hp increase will likely improve my quarter mile time from a 14.2 to about a 12.7....or so I hope. Think about that in realworld terms - from a stoplight, I will be able to travel a 1/4 mile a whole 1.5 seconds faster...and that's 125 ponies talking.

You guys are talking about 10hp mods on a 5000lb+ truck...you really think it's worth it?
