speaker sizes

Hey guys, I need some information. i was wandering if just replacing the speakers in truck would make it sound better, it sounds good the way it is but i would like it to sound better without sinking a lot of money in it. what size are the speakers in that come in the lariat? and what brand of speaker would you recomend? i wish i had the adiophile system. i would appreciate any help on this. i am looking to spend $500.00 or less.

I put Infinity 572 Kappas in all four doors (I've got a SCAB). $168 delivered price brand new off of e-bay. I tried their reference series from Circuit City first ($171 for two pair) and wasn't satisfied. The Kappas rock.

Thorin, did you put these speakers in with a stock head unit and no amp? Did they make a big difference? Which head unit do you have?

All Fords from 99 and up use 5x7 (6x8) speakers.

I just installed some Component Speakers the other night and they sound beautiful. I used 6x8" adapter plates to mount my 5 1/4" (circular) woofers, then mounted my 1" dome tweeters right by the window defrosters. There is TONS of room to work with back there and they sound much better then the factory tweeter locations. I HIGHLY reccomend using this area over the factory hole. I'll post pictures soon.

All this without an AMP?

I like my music "heavy". I listen to music like: Disturbed, KoRn, Linkin Park, etc. with heavy metal bass. Factory set up is good and clear, but just missing the "heavy" mid sounds in the music. Just a simple upgrade of my speakers will give me that without an AMP?

I have the 6 disc CD without the audiophile. I installed Kappas both 6.5 components in the front and 5x7s in the back without an amp first. The stock speakers gave me more bass because the kappas were not seeing enough watts from the factory HU. The mids and highs sounded alot better though. If you install kappas or any other good speakers I highly rec. you install an amp with it. If you don't you will not be using those new speakers to their fullest and therefore IMO wasting your $$. Once I added an amp to them it made a big diff. in all fz. Like night and day.
I kept my factory HU and am using high to low convertors.
Pictures in gallery of install. Good Luck!!

That's not true. It's best not to use the high level inputs on the amp from the stock HU. All you need is high to low line convertors and an amp. You can pick the convertors up from Best Buy or any sound shop. Install the convertors on the speaker wires coming from your stock HU. One end of the convertor as bare wires to hook to the speakers wires and the other has female RCA plugs that you use to run RCAs to your amp. Then you run new speakers wires from you amp to your speakers. I have it this way and it sounds great!
Good luck.
