Angry passenger side door, lack of key slot

I for the life of me do not understand this. I personally would rather have a key slot on the passenger side door than the tailgate. Twice already I've found myself on the passenger side needing to get something out of the truck, then realizing the door is locked so I've gotta walk around to the drivers door and either punch in my code or use the key. Do the lower trim levels have a key slot on the passenger side, such as the XL or STX? If so, could I possiably have one of those door handle assemblies installed on my truck?

I know I've got this little "clicker button" thing, but its just to bulky in my pocket. I never used it on my 2001 SD either. That thing along with the larger key size for the F150, and the other keys I'm required to carry I'd have to "redneck it" and start carrying my keys on a chain!

ultramaxer21,

This was hashed out to some extent a couple of month ago in this thread:
Unlock Passenger Door With Key?

I chalk this up as a "you can't please all of the people all of the time issue". I suspect most people prefer to use their keyless entry "fob" rather than using their keys...especially those of use who are concerned about our other keys banging into the door and scratching the paint. I will admit that after my '97 XLT Scab, it took me a few weeks to get used to using the fob for its remote unlock feature. I have found it is so convenient, I wouldn't want a vehicle without it. Anyhow, it's hashed out in the thread I linked pretty well.

Your notion that it would be better to have a key slot in the passenger door than the tailgate confounds me...but you may live in an area where you never have to worry about your tailgate being stolen and/or you don't have a secure tonneau cover. There would be a tremendous negative response it they took the locks out of the tailgates for those very reasons.

Way back in 1996 when I was researching the then-new '97 F150, the media often addressed the locking tailgate feature with a trivia fact that tailgates were the 'most stolen item' from vehicles in the state of Texas. And, even though I have a hard tonneau, I prefer the added security of the tailgate key lock.

Just buy a second keypad for your passenger side. They are available through Ford Accessories for $135.

That's a photo of a Chevy/GMC door handle.....

Even if you get the Ford one, it doesn't come with the lock, so it really doesn't get you anywhere. Getting the keypad is the quickest and least expensive way to get where you want to go.

I havent used a key to open a door in years, I thought they should do away with the key antry on the passenger AND driver side!!! you're already "rednecking it" ultramaxer, if you're still using a key, come on... just kidding

Here is a cool option if you use your key fob to unlock the doors. If you have memory seats, you can program each fob to activate each setting of the memory seat. So, if you press unlock the seats will move to where you want it before you get in. You can see how to set it in the owner's manual.

I'd be happy if they just got rid of keys altogether.

Guess thats in the future, though....

Oh wait, Lexus has just done that.

My predicition is keys will be as obscure to the next generation as 8 track tapes and floppy disks are to the current generation.

You heard it here first, folks....

I know this is something I'll just have to get used to, and its not that big of a deal just a little annoying especially when I'm running late to class and I have to run back around the truck to unlock the passenger side door.

As for not having a tailgate lock, that's just me. I'm not saying they should do away with it. I was just saying if I had a choice between locking tailgate vs a passegner side key slot I would choose the passenger side key slot. Tailgate thieves aren't to wide spread where I live. I have heard the occasional story of one being stolen, but it's rare. However, I can see where the locking tailgate would come in handy for that!

On another note, do you guys with job#1 trucks have a blue oval on your ignition key? My keys just have a ford emblem engraved in the plastic.

Sorry to inform ya but no, no memory mirrors. That is one thing I do dislike, why memory seats but no memory mirrors.

You guys are overanalyzing this memory thing...

Just tell your significant other that its YOUR truck, nobody else drives it but YOU and problem solved.
