new f-150 manual tranny

anyone know about ford putting a manual tranny in the new f-150 ?
I read they will offer a 6 cylinder and a manual for the 05 model that maybe released this summer.
i was wondering if anyone else heard anything.

Haven't heard that but it sounds logical. Lots of "fleet" sales opportunities where they don't need or want the expense of the V8. Though have to say that with the weight of this truck, that 6 cyl. will have to come to the table with a full bowl of Wheaties! Also, there's still a lot of buyers out there that don't want an auto.

there are published press reports that the 4.6 and 4.2 are also going to 3v design.

I would expect the 5 sp to be available at that time.

Other thing to consider is that with Rouge being set up as a flex plant, they will probably have that plant making all of the work trucks and 5 speeds with the other 2 plants focussing on high end, high margin trucks.

I can't imagine the V6 F-150 being fun to drive at all. The only '04 I've driven was a 5.4 reg cab and it felt sluggish to me. Really had to shovel the coal to it to get it to accelerate. I just couldn't see a V6 '04.

It's all getting used to the truck. Once you get used to the drive by wire throttle, the thing will haul ***. The biggest problem with the power is the shift points in particular the down shift points.

i would swear to it i had the 03 manual 4.6 and my dad hs the 03 5.4 auto. and i'd swear mine would do circles around his. it just feels like it loses it all in the tranny engine winds up but won't go nowhere.

work trucks aren't supposed to be fun.

this engine will most likely see fleet use for the budget concious.

Something on the 4.2 and the 4.6. If the 5.4 got 15% HP increase and 5% torque increase, that makes the 4.2 with 235 HP and 265 lb-ft, and the 4.6 would get 265 HP and 305 lb-ft in 3v applications. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
