How about a new forum for "VIN Check Please"?

Hey Webmaster? How about a forum for VIN checks?

The constant flow of VIN check posts are getting overwhelming on this forum.

Not trying to be picky, but everytime I log on I have to weed through half a page of them to get to the meat of the forum.

I would kindly agree. Plus it would make it easier for the people who do the vin checks to find them in one place.

Hey why don't we ask them. How bout it ScrewBuilder and IzInBloom?

Heres my .02 (also known as an unsolicited opinion):

An arbitrary new forum is not the best of ideas, unless there is someone who makes a commitment to moderate and support it.

I think it's great that some of the members here, expecially BigMacFX4 and IzInBloom, have really gone out of their way to provide the information that they have for people who are anxious about their orders, but it's got to stop somewhere. It's amazing how many people from other forums have joined so that they can check on their order status. Some stick around, but a bunch don't.
It has gotten a little (ok more than a little) tiresome to keep clicking "next thread" through all of the "Vin check" threads.
Ultimately, it's up to those guys who have been checking for the members whether they want to keep doing it. Likely there will be more people here that are pleased if it stops than disappointed, especially as there have been multiple posts about how to use the VOPC number if you really "must" get status updates on your order.
(BTW-I never made any "Vin check" posts while my '04 was on order, so I don't feel like a hypocrite posting this opinion.)

John

Creating a new Forum involves site overhead and Lord knows, nothing prevents a member from posting in the wrong Forum.

A simpler answer would be a single Thread, 'Vin Check'.

Easier for the members supplying this service.
Easy to skip one thread that doesn't interest you.
Easy to find for those who are interested.

All the webmaster would have to do is make it a sticky thread such as the one on aftermarket parts.

I agree- it seems that many of those members requesting VIN checks dont stick around, and it does get annoying to see all these VIN check threads. Some VIN checks are not even for new trucks, just any Ford vehicle. I have not been posting to and reading this site as much anymore because it just gets a bit annoying. I am all for the idea of a separate forum for VIN checks, but that is up to IzInBloOm, as he is gracious enough to provide these for us in the first place

from what i understand, if people would just use VOPC then we would not need any VIN checks anywhere on this site. checking your VIN doesn't make it arrive any quicker...

To be honest the VIN checks are becoming overwhelming. With somewhere on the order of 950,000+ F150's being built this year, I don't think I can keep up. The way the F150online server is set up I need to wait at least a minute between checks. This becomes very time comsuming.

I'm not sure of a way I could cut back the checks and be fair to everyone. I've even started getting quite a few emails about VIN checks filling up my INBOX.

Like someone else said, the VIN check doesn't get your truck to you faster, and it seems like the trucks are flying through the plants these days.

I kinda inherited the checks from BIGMACFX4, and with the growing demand i'm going to have to cut back. So maybe if someone has a special case such as a long delay in getting their truck let me know.

Peace. †

IzInBloOm, you have been quite generous with the VIN checks, and the Forum owes you one - next time I am in MI I'll buy you a beer. It is really a shame to see people sign up for the forum just to get a VIN check, and then leave. I dont think that is what any of us want. Thanks again for everything, and let's hope we can get back to the meat of this forum - our great trucks!

I just got my first vin check the other day. I've been a member here since last summer. I don't plan on going anywhere soon either. I love this site! There are some really interesting people and topics here. I check almost everyday to see what new topics are being covered. I especially love the pictures people post! I really appriated it when IzInBloOm did a vin check for me. It was just a curiosity thing for me. If I could return the favor to IzInBloOm I would for sure. I owe that guy a beer. I understand that it does not get my truck here any sooner.

Guess I didn't think about all the work that it took for vin checks. However, I see no need for it when there is VOPC. Maybe we should just post a sticky showing how to use VOPC and then request that if there are any special circumstances to email IzInBloom. IzInBloom you could set up a yahoo or hotmail account to use instead or your personal account. That way if you got tired of it or it just consumed your inbox you just stop checking that address.

Just my thoughts. BTW.. Thanks for all that you have done.

Like my father says its the anticipation that make it so fun. Something to look forward too.

I gotta agree with blitz here -- enough is enough already! To that end, I started a thread in the "Comments & Suggestions" forum addressing this issue. You can find it here. Feel free to add your comments there.

I would like to thank IzInBloOm for what he has done for this site.

Vopc is an informative tool I used it a few times checking on my truck when I was waiting on it but I found it easier to check by order number, speak really loud and it will work.

Our webmaster Steve posted a reply to the post I made in the Comments & Suggestion forum concerning this issue (see: this thread). Those following the topic are welcome to post their input there.

FYI: As per Steve's request, I will be deleting all refrences to the VOPC info in the morning. Also, note: VOPC info will not be permitted to be posted on this board going forward.
