Its too bad that all the best trucks on the lots go first. If Ford could keep up with the demand there wouldnt be such a long wait. Lucky me found what I wanted on the lot. Granted it was a lot in Georgia. But definately worth the drive.
The big downside of having so many options is the inability of the dealers to order the truck version people want in enough quantity. They order a little of each. Some sell and some sit, while the customers end up ordering from Ford or driving 5 hours to a dealer that has what they want (exageration for most, but I did and I didn't think it was unreasonable in Montana). I decided I would rather blow a Saturday on the highway to buy at another dealer than wait months for ordering.
Not only has this new F-150 cost Ford a bunch of money to get to market, Ford is also ramping up production very slowly. The idea is to get the trucks right from the assembly plant. If that is what it takes, why bitch about it. These new trucks literally determine Ford's future and so far the launch of the new truck is really good. They won't goof it up at this point by trying to build more than they can build well. You should be happy about that - I would be happy enough to wait for them to build my new truck right. Ford will dominate the domestics with their new F-150.
production
Actually, we have not "ramped up" production in a long time. We have been working 10-10.5 hours per day, 5-6 days a week and build around 1200 per day. There is nothing "slow" about that. The fact is that we still cannot keep up with demand while at full production. It is a "tough" problem to have.

Hey screwbuilder, any idea how many trucks (f-150) you guys have built since making the switch over to the new body style? Do they keep track of that kind of thing? I was just wondering.
I thnk you are waiting on a full train, this is the most frustrating time, but you are only a couple of days away, hang in---also, not Ford's fault by any means---it has to be pretty damn hard to build these and ship them all across the country without some delays---but this is easy for me to say because I have gotten mine---good luck
