Thumbs down update 4: back to the dealer.

update 4: well on my way home from work today it went back into failsafe mode so I took it back to the dealer where it will sit until the throttle body comes in. Hopefully that will be the end to this annoying chapter. I have never experienced such frustration with a new truck before and this is my 4th. I do love this truck, but they really need to get this solved.

Update 1

Update 1:

Got it back from the dealer, they "reprogrammed the PCM", made some adjustments to the settings and drove it for 50 miles.

Sounds like I'll be posting another update in a couple hundred miles.

BUMP

Still waiting to get my truck back from dealer, today I called and they said the throttle body is still on back order from ford and that there is a new flash update due in 2 weeks. My response was can you take a throttle body off of one of the trcks on your lot and put in my truck so I don't have to be without my truck for another 2 weeks. That is what they are going to do, and I will get the reflash when it comes in. Hopefully I will have my truck back tonight.

they probably won't let you take a 3000 mile test drive. that is when mine really started to act up. From what I've heard, Ford thinks they know what the problem is and how to fix it I'm just stuck waiting for the part. if after all this the part doesn't fix it I may have to call a lemon lawyer. Hopefully that won't be the case.

Question is, what do you want to do? I know its easy for me to say, but Id rather have them fix the truck. I dont want a new one for a problem that seems fixable. Ive got just short of 200 miles since they flashed it.

The only complaint I have with my dealer is the loaner. I drove in with a $38k truck and drove out in a $12k Chevy/Daewoo POS. That'll be the last time that happens.

Are they at least taking care of ya, or are they blowing smoke?

They've been pretty good to me, the first loaner was a fully loaded excursion, then a windstar, because the gas milage was killing me. As far as the service goes it just disappointing hear " We know about the problem and we're working on it" I guess that is just the nature of the beast with a brand new design. I want my truck back in like new condition(working). so hopefully this is now resolved. I keep seeing more and more 04's on the road and I just want to be able to drive mine..

The wrench light came on for the first time in my FX4 this morning when I started it to go to work. I've got almost 5200 miles on it. Luckily I noticed it prior to getting on the road or even worse, the freeway. The engine appeared to be idling rougher than normal. I shut everything off and waited for about a minute. Turned the key to the ON position but did not start the engine. Waited for a bit .... I think I waited long enough for the seat belt dinger to stop dinging. Started the engine and everything was fine. Drove to work ... no problems. Still it kinda worries me because my family and I are going on a 340 mile (one-way) road trip this weekend.

Well, my road trip went fine this past weekend ... no problems.

However, this morning the problem happened again. Wrench light came on. I shut off the engine, waited a bit and restarted. No light. Put it in drive and started to head down the road. About 10 seconds into it, the wrench light came on again followed by the check engine light. Very rough running engine - probably in "limp home" mode running on less than all 8 cylinders. So, I limped it back to my driveway.

Shut off the engine again, waited and restarted. Now only the check engine light is still on, and I don't notice any rough running of the engine. Called nearest Ford dealer and made an appointment anyway. Taking it in this afternoon after I get back from work (borrowed my fiance's Mom's car to get there).

Dropped my truck off yesterday at 4:00 PM. They provided me with a Taurus SES to drive around in ... at no charge, except for the gas so it has a full tank upon returning it. Have not heard anything from them yet this morning.

Hopefully it is just the throttle body, my truck has been running great since I got the new one a week and a half ago.

Well, the service dept at the dealer gave me a call. Said that they got "odd codes" on their computer from my truck. Unfortunately, the person that called couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me what they were. They're now running it through their "pinpoint test series", but it's taking longer than they expected. Hence, they have to keep my truck for another day. Ugh.... "odd codes" huh? Gee, I wonder what the heck that's supposed to mean. And I'm getting tired of that Taurus they gave me to drive already. If there's no resolution tomorrow, I'm stopping by there in person to see what's going on.

Just got a call from the dealer. They reprogrammed the PCM to the newest version of firmware. No mention of parts replacement (others here on the site reported that they had to have the throttle body replaced on their trucks). They didn't give me any of the new version numbers for the PCM, and I didn't have time to ask 'cause I was right in the middle of a meeting at work when they called. According to them, the problem is gone and fixed now, though they can't find the passenger side upper anchor seat belt rattle that I told them about. I'll try to get PCM version numbers from them when I pick up my truck later today. If so, I'll post them here.

Like others on this site have reported, they requested that I fill out their survey as "completely satisfied" when it arrives in the mail. Maybe I will provided that the wrench light problem is fixed, and they take the time to find the seat belt rattle.
