Hey Guys,

I had that same problem in my truck and after driving it around with the flight recorder for 2 weeks, the dealer replaced the throttle body. Since then they have replaced several more and have told me that the part is on backorder because there are a lot of trucks having the problem. But they did say that the new throttle body HAS FIXED all of the trucks they have seen in failsafe mode.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info, my service dept. called yesterday to tell me that they ordered a new throttle body for mine. Hopefully they have a handle on this so more people won't have to go through this.

Just wondering - are all of these Job1 vehicles? Guessing the new throttle body has been put in for Job2?

throttle bodies

Has Ford redesigned the throttle bodies or are some just defective and being replaced with identical ones that are new?

I wonder if this is unique to the 5.4L?????

If so, maybe fate led me to the smaller V8... lol

I would like a rundown of the differences between the two.
I think I will pose the question in a new thread / topic.

WHOZNEXT, Did they try to replace your throttle body any of the times you took yours in, or is this a new "find" at ford? And are you still looking at getting a new one or are they gonna try to fix yours right this time?

To my knowledge they have never considered the throttle body the culprit on mine. I am supposed to be in the process of getting another truck right now. My dealer has found another one we are waiting for it to come in to that dealer however. The build date on my old one was around 9/03, it was an early truck. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, would be curious all the same. This must be becoming more of a problem for them every day. I know it has stressed me out bad for four weeks.

I can only hope that in the end, you get a truck you can depend on and be extremely happy with. Best of luck with it for sure.

Thumbs up Update 3

Update 3: after my service dept. spoke with another Ford engineer, they ordered a throttle body and reflashed the computer. the part is on back order, but since the computer reflash I have put on 200 miles with no problems. It seems that they have narrowed the problem down to the throttle body so the problem for now seems to be corrected. Hopefully there won't be a need for update 4.

add me to the list.....

This happened to me on Tues. 2-17, 2447 miles (dont know the build date, bought Jan 3.) Went to leave work and the wrech light came on, ran like poop. After talking to the service mgr. last night, he explained it as it was related to the ETC accuator/sensor whatever. He said that some of the settings in the computer needed to be adjusted, sounded like the tolerences between the ETC and whatever else is tied in to it. He said that there wasnt really anything wrong with the truck (yeah right), that the Ford engineers have been guessing at the thresholds/tolerences of this new fangled throttle.

They supposedly uploaded a new version of the eeprom(?) and played with some of the settings, per Ford. Ford wanted him to put a few more miles on it before they gave it back to me. Hopefully today.

Hopefully that made some sense. I consider myself to be somewhat technical, but that was a crappy explination I know. This ETC is a little spooky to me. Gimme the cable back!

I'll post any updates as they come in.

If they get the little problems related to throttle response and the fail safe mode fixed, I think I'd prefer the ETC. However, the thing I wonder about is the long-term viability of the DC motor that actually opens/closes the throttle. I figure that thing takes a lot of abuse over the years (especially the way I drive!)
