i can't say for sure because I have not sat in a 40/20/40 Lariat, I've only looked at one, but I have the Captain's Chairs in my Lariat and I don't see how they could be the same. I think you may be mistaken, but like I said, I am no expert. the 40 parts may be the same width, but i don't think they are the same design or construction.

I've got the 40/20/40, but on an XLT. I can't speak for the Lariat, but I know that the Captains Chairs are different than what I have. Yes, I do have 2 independant seats, but the feel/look/design is different than the Captains Chairs.

To be honest, I didn't know the 40/20/40 was an option with the Lariat.

Naw, the real problem would be: the Admirals Chairs would have to either be painted or lubed...

[old Navy saw: if it moves, lube it; if it doesn't, paint it]

Maybe if you said "Admirals Chairs".....

I believe Nissan is offering the "Admiral Yamamoto" Chair in the new Titan.

When I bought my truck, I was trying to decide on the "Captain's Chairs" option. I examined trucks with "Captain's Chairs" and "40/20/40 Bench Seat" side by side -- then drove both.

The driver and passenger seats are identical. The only change is the center portion. Put a console in the middle, it's "Captain's Chairs"; but bolt in the third seat instead, and it's "40/20/40 Bench Seat". The only difference is the center part. I liked the seat/swing down console, so I saved $355.

I just flipped through the brochure and there are several pics of both seating configs. Surprisingly, they do appear to be identical.

It does appear to me, the seats themselves are exactly the same part, which does make sense from a mfg point of view. However, it should also be noted (for those that don't know); optioning up the "seat/swing down console" of the 40/20/40 for the "Captain's Chairs", does add the flow through console, along with the console mounted shifter. You really need to sit in both version to appreciate how much it changes the personality of the truck. You could change consoles later, but you would still have the matter of converting the column shifter to console mounted.

Personally, the decision (lotsa previous threads on this one...) is a tough one for me. On one hand, you have transformed the truck in to something a little sportier feeling; and if you plan on hauling passengers in the back seat, the A/C duct to through the console is a nice feature. On the other hand, you take away the big, open cab feel that comes with the 'bench' equipped truck; plus you give up the seating for six option. One choice is not *better* than the other, it is simply a matter of priorities.

Which reminds me...

Know why cowboys roll up their hats up on the side?

So they can sit three across in a truck.

Yes. There are 2 heat/ac vents and a power supply on the back of the console for the backseat.

seats

My dealer ,who is a good friend, told me the reason my 2004 screw was taking so long was that ford did not have the center consoles. If I wanted the 40/20/40 seat I could get my truck alot faster.Maybe thats why the dealer told you ford had stoped making captian seats.

I wish that were the case but he looked me in the face and told me that they were not making any more trucks with captain's chairs til the end of the year. He is just full of sh*t.
