Amps under front seats on FX4

I am getting ready to upgrade the stereo on my 2004 Scab FX4. I want to put the amps under both front seats but noticed that there are air vents that blow out from under the seats. It has big plastic type vents that are quite big and stick up about an inch from the floor. At first my thought was at least I could feed fresh air to the amps but then thought about when the heater is turned on that it would then blow hot air across them. Anyone got any ideas about where else I could mount a couple thousand watts worth of amps. The truck has the floor shifter with center console. Thanks for any ideas you guy's have!

Hmmm, haven't really thought about that one. I'll be in the same boat once I get started on mine. I've been trying to figure out how to fit a 12" Boston Acoustics sub under te rear seat without raising it.

Sure thing. Next day off I get, I'm gonna go have a talk with my installer and see what he says. I don't really want to go to 10" since I still have the 12" left over from my last car. I'll still have one 12 left over though. I'm sure I'll find a use for it somewhere...hmmm...maybe a custom stereo in the motorcycle race trailer

what about in the center console area. seems there is a lot of extra room not taken by the storage area. would take some cutting up to do, but might be an option.

"....there are air vents that blow out from under the seats. It has big plastic type vents that are quite big and stick up about an inch from the floor." This is for a Scab FX4, does anyone know if the Scab 4x4 Lariat also has these vents? I don't get any heat in the back at all, only thru the vents on the console if I have the air on.

I too have a couple of boston 12's to put in my 2004 Supercrew.. The only thoughts I had were to make a rear console type setup, with the amps in fan trays in the bottom, and the sub firing under the rear seat (backward). It seems pretty cool in my head, but we will see what happens when I start cutting wood.

The whole thing could probably either just sit on the floor, or wrap around up on the seat for an armrest, etc.

If you aren't interested in displaying your amps, I would recommend mounting them to the back of the rear seat. I have a pdf on how to do it if you like. As far as an enclosure is concerned, I am in the same boat as most of you. Space is very tight in these trucks. I think I will go with 2 10's under the rear seat....we'll see. Just email if you want the pdf file.

I have an 04 Screw Lariat and I mounted my 4 channel amp that runs my Infinity Kappas in my doors under my pass. seat. I too have the vent under my seats. What I did was let the back end of the amp sit on top of the vent and I got 2 3'' screws and filed the ends to a point. I than put the screws using nuts through the front 2 holes on the amp holding the front end of the amp 3' about the vent and the floor. The screws stick into the carpet and my amp does not move. I will be mounting my sub amp under the rear seat with my custom box and 2 RE8'' subs. I would not mount my sub amp in the place I put the other amp due to the heat from that vent. A sub amp will get hotter than a 4 channel amp and the heat from the vent combined might be to much for the amp. I have not had any problems with my 4 channel amp with the vent under it. Remember most amps will shut down around the 180 F. I have no room under my drivers seat because of the motors for the seat and there is no way to mount an amp behind the rear seat. Hope this helps.

Can the amps go behind the rear seat on a Screw? Does any one know where to get a seat lift kit? I've checked with all the box makers, and they don't have one.
