stretch1:

The physical actuator has a pigtial that connects to the main run of wiring routed to power. To remove the tailgate would only involved the extra step if disconnecting the pigtail. How does it work? Great. I did however change the way it was wired. The shop wired the actuator to work in conjunction with the LF door and after a day or so I decided I did not like that so I re-wired it to work in conjunction with the RF, LR, & RR doors.

If you don't mind me asking, where are you? Just a state is fine.

Sweet. Mine has not made it to Atlanta, Georgia as of yesterday. I hope it is on my doorstep when I get off work. I'll post pix of installation if you don't. The guy at Dyno told me that there is a video of install on their website. I have yet to find it.

Video of Install?

There is no install video. There is only a pic of the gate lock in operation.

I hope you have a test light. Truck Gadgets initially connected my tailgate lock by tapping into wires in the channel next to the drives seat under the door seal. Pink/Black = lock, Red/Pink = unlock. This resulted in the tailgate lock working in conjunction with the LF door. After a day or so I decided I did not like that for Stretch1

I wanted the tailgate to work in conjunction with the RF, RR, & LR doors only. So I moved the unlock lead from the Red/Pink to solid Pink. Now, here is were it got crazy. I was told that the unlock lead for the RF, RR, & LR was Pink/Orange. I could not find a Pink/Orange that matched the same gauge wire as the Pink/Black (lock lead) next to the drivers seat so I investigated the wiring in the LR channel – no Pink/Orange but I did identify a solid Pink wire the same gauge as the Pink/Black that had power when the RF, RR, & LR doors were unlocked with the key FOB or the switch on the driver’s door. That is the wire I used for unlocking the tailgate. So, mine is hooked using Pink/Black = Lock, Solid Pink = Unlock. I have been told that the way I have it is not correct but, it works as described – I have a Lariat Screw.

Lesson learned, if I was wiring it from scratch I believe I would tap into the channel on the passenger side of the truck for there are a fewer wires to deal with there.

Screw, Started to install the lock today. Did they bend the bracket to make it fit? When I attempted to install it, the pin on the divice doesn't fit on top of the handle lever? It slides under it.
Does this make sense?

tailgate lock

The instructions say you may have to bend the bracket, I did. I also cut a piece of split pipe insulation foam and wrapped it arount the assy. before tightning. There is no support and the bracket flexes a lot.

stretch1 & ddavison:

Yes, the mounting bracket, when bent to work on the 04, ended up with a slight “stair step” look. You basically have to keep adjusting the amount of stair step that results in the pin fully extending on top of the handle. As far as the flex goes… I went back into my tailgate and made a rubber spacer to fit between the actuator and the tailgate frame. I then used a commercial type tie-wrap to secure the actuator to the tailgate thus eliminating the flexing. If I had a digital camera I would take some pics but I do not so I hope this explains well enough to help you.

I am attempting to install and cannot figure out how this is suppose to work out. I have the assembly in and the 1/4" nut is in place.

However, I cannot see how the locking pin (rod) is suppose to prevent the tailgate from being opened. The pin is fully extended and I can still open the gate. I don't understand the "bending" part.

Help???

With the tailgate lock cover removed watch the operation of the handle a couple of times. The arms on each side of the handle are shaped something like a U (not exactly but the best letter I can use). The pin of the attached to the actuator inserts into the “valley” of the U thus keeping the handle from moving enough to release the tailgate when the actuator is engaged.

Remove the nut from the stud on the driver’s side of the handle/lock mechanism. The bracket with the actuator attached should have 3 holes (at least mine does). The middle hole is used for the 04 application. With the pin fully extended, work the actuator into position so that the pin is in the valley of the U and the center hole on the bracket slips over the stud you removed the nut from. By doing this you should be able to see how much bending you will need to do to get the bracket to fit flush on the locking mechanism and allow the pin to extended into the valley of the U. You will be bending the stainless plate the actuator is attached to not he pin itself. Once all this is lined up and working you will need tighten up the nut and then drill a hole (using the small hole in the bracket as a template) and screw in the sheet metal screw that should have been provided to stabilize the bracket.

Hope this helps.
