Sheryl, The landscaping company the driver worked for paid for a $200 detail. Lanscape marking paint is water based so it acutally came of relatively easy. I did notice a little patch of green specs when I was washing my truck yesterday. They came off with a little water and elbow grease

OMC, I'm going to put some kind of intake on my truck. I've read some pretty good things about Volant, but I honestly don't know enough about what's out there to make a decision yet. The Volant looks like it's built different from the AF1 or Airaid intakes, so I'm interested to learn more about it. I did hear that some of the early AF1 intakes screwed up some peoples trucks, so I think my plan is to wait until March (bonus time ) and see what the latest is. It will also be time to put the Magnaflow cat-back on! Then a Hypertech tuner and that should be enough for a while. If you want to hear what some more learned people have to say search for "Airaid" and you'll see a bunch of threads about it.

TruBluScrew:

The fact that this system draws air from outside the engine compartment is a positive for the reasons mentioned on their web site. I am interested in this one due to this.

Sure would like these guys (and all the others) to post actual dyno results for the different trucks and conditions during the test.

Omc,

I've got one in my 03' Expedition w/5.4 and it performs awesome. I've been averaging about 14.5 mph around the city with it. Pulling a trailer with it is great too. That's my next purchase for my 04' SCrew. I found dirt behind my K&N on my '99, so I"m not going back.

Volant makes very good products. It is definately worth considering. As for the ram air hood, it isn't worth a ill of beans without proper tuning. i'll take the new intake over a new hood any day of the week.

Why do u say that? It will let more air to the motor than any replacement intake system. Long as the engine can compensate for the air it will make more power. Fresh cool air off the top of the hood.

guys guys guys, i had an intake on my Cougar, it wasn't cold air but it never gave me better milage, 1-2MPG worse actually. Think about it, the Mass Air Flow sensor dictates the temp and amount of air going into the engine, and more air means more fuel means more HP, one can't be had without the other. I can't see how more air = better MPG, think about Turbo's and Superchargers, they drink the gas when they engage......... think about it.

it will let more air into the engine compartment, not to the engine. the stock intake sucks air from the fender area, so having more air under the hood does you no good i think. unless of course you change the intake system to utilize the fresh air coming in through the hood. but that, as i said before, requires more tuning than just changing hoods. Volant or any other aftermarket intake makes life so much easier. Not that ram air hoods are bad, you just have to use them correctly or else they are a waste of money.

The same volume of air at a lower temperature is denser resulting in a more explosive fuel/air mixture and higher HP. If the intake works correctly, it should also allow the engine to run leaner resulting in better gas mileage. I just made all this **** up so I might be wrong

I origanally posted the pic of this hood and more recently I have posted the pic of a less agressive hood. Both of them are functional. They come with specially designed air boxes that connect the openings in the hood to the air box. This creates a ram air effect, which means as you drive the air is forced in to the motor. This a cheap form of forced induction. When sitting still this acts as a true cold air intake, by bring outside ambient temp. air into the motor. Then the faster you drive the more power you make. Faster=more volume and psi of air into motor. If you go to Volant's web site, on the home page you will see they have made a ram air induction for a chevy. It hooks to the regular volant cold air box, the has ducting down to two holes in a volant designed fron fascia. A guy I work with just put a similar type on his c-5 vette the amount of added power is quite surprising.
