Volant Intake
A little more info to broadcast. I talked to Volant today about their product for the 04 F150. May have been posted already but, the box system part number is 19754. Additionally, Volant will have an extension ready in a few weeks that will extend the intake to under the front bumper. This will be part # 39854. Volant had no pictures or drawings that they could share at this time.

it will let more air into the engine compartment, not to the engine. the stock intake sucks air from the fender area, so having more air under the hood does you no good i think. unless of course you change the intake system to utilize the fresh air coming in through the hood. but that, as i said before, requires more tuning than just changing hoods. Volant or any other aftermarket intake makes life so much easier. Not that ram air hoods are bad, you just have to use them correctly or else they are a waste of money.

I had not heard of the AIRAID System blowing up engines, I have heard of the Air Force One Systems have some issues with engines running to lean, and they have pulled it for now from the market. I talked with AIRAID and below was there feedback to my questions:
Sirs:
You indicated in your e-mail "It is recommended to reset the computer to allow necessary changes to take effect" What are these necessary changes? How does unhooking the battery for a good hour make any specific changes as related to the AIRAID to the vehicles computer? I don't understand, I'm very concerned about damage to the engine. If there was a command to the engines computer sent via the OBDII it would make more sense, Just unhooking the battery, how does the vehicles computers know that you are changing a air filter supply versus lets say changing a headlight? I have used your systems before and have never been told I need to change computer settings, is their something different on this model? Like I said this is a $37,000 truck and I don't want to damage it. I have heard of trucks of this type and model year being damaged, that is why I have so many questions. Please help me understand before I make another purchase of your products.
AIRAID's reply:
Thank you for your inquiry. It is recommended to reset the computer so it will recognize the difference in air flow created by adding this system. Disconnecting the negative battery cable can achieve this. This system in particular requires that the intake tube be properly seated and locked into the throttle body (tube needs to be past the inside groove of the throttle body before tightening). Our products are known as ‘air management’ products which if used and installed correctly, will not void your warranty or cause damage. I have yet to have any customers file a warranty claim with this vehicle.
Sincerely,
Jason
WARRANTY INFORMATION
AIRAID Intakes and Filters will NOT void your vehicle’s warranty. The federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 states that the manufacturer can't void a vehicle’s warranty because an aftermarket part is used. This is called a tie-in sale. Which means a manufacturer can't require the use of a certain brand of product. The only exception to this is the condition they provide the product for free. For assistance or more information the Federal Trade Commission can be contacted at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382.4357).

I think what would accompany the volant intake is the mass air sensor http://www.granatellimotorsports.com
Just don't drive through water I guess huh?
Somewhere on their website it addresses this issue. There is some type of device that diverts the water out the bottom of the scoop and the air to the top.
