6 disc indash same as Audiophile
6 disc indash same as Audiophile
I have the 6 disc indash sound system, wanted the audiophile but it wasn't in the truck so thats all i can do. I think the sound is really rich and bassy and was wondering if there is anything different other than the Subwoofer and a bit of preset equalizer functions on the audiophile. My system has 8 speakers i beleive, i know there is 4 in the front for sure.
The radios are not the same. audiophile has a lot of features the standard 6 disk doesn't.If you do not have audiophile you only have 4 speakers,2 front 2 rear.audiophile has 7 speakers,4 front 2 rear and a 90 wat sub.you can't make the standard 6 disk into an audiophile.

Audiophile is sweet.
I stopped at a yellow light on the way to work today so I could listen a minute longer.
The extra 2 speakers up front make a big difference. When I sit in the backseat which doesn't have the extra speakers, the sound is noticeably poorer than in the front seat. I added audiophile to my order at the last minute, thank God I did because it was worth the money.
I'm sure at some point an audiophile head unit is going to show up on ebay. I would buy it in a heartbeat if I didn't already have one.

I just have the 6 disc in-dash and I don't just have 4 speakers. I have two tweeters, two mids up front, and two in the rear. Am I special or something or are you guys just guessing on my system only having 4 speakers?

All I can say is that audiophile is worth every penny. I've had cars with big money systems when back in high school and have many friends that still think there in high school with the trunk full of speakers. When I ordered the audiophile i thought it would just sound a little better then a stock system and when people on this site said it sounded awsome i thought they were some older people who thinks anything sounds good (HiFi) lol.. but I'll tell you that I'm very surprised and happy about how great it sounds. Ahhh now I'm out of breath from typing and mispelling all of that..
FYI
Just to let anyone know in case they haven't noticed already:
Back on August 5th, when I first ordered my truck, the option for Audiophile was just ONE line:
581 Audiophile w/6-disc in-dash CD
But when I re-ordered on Monday (1/26/04) the options had changed IF you wanted Audiophile. You had to select TWO options:
91P 6-Disc CD CHGR
581 Audiophile
And YES, I know you could always order JUST the 6-Disc before as your sound system, I just wanted to let anyone know who may have done what I did, and decided to wait until Spring to enjoy their new truck, to be aware of that change. So if you want Audiophile just make sure the dealer puts in BOTH codes, or at least code 581, which forces 91P to come up as well.
PS The system won't let him put JUST the 91P code in if he already put in code 581, but if he puts in just code 91P you'll be out Audiophile, so double-check your order before confirming it!

If by some reason you pull off the grill and discover you have tweeters, you should cheers yourself on being the beneficiary of a factory defect.
Be sure to pull off the speaker grills in the front door before assuming you have tweeters
Ummm, nope I have tweeters. My buddy works at Stereo West here in Omaha. I was thinking about an aftermarket system and we checked it out. There are tweeters. He was trying to talk me into replacing them with aftermarket ones, but I enjoy my sound system as it is, I just wanted a cooler head unit.
I got it also, fuinny thing though.....
At first I really didn't want it because my old expo had the mach system in it factory and 6-disc cd changer with cassette and the changer in the center console compartment and. Started looking at the 04's in September and fought tooth and nail to find one with the cd and cassette setup with the audiophile package but just couldn't do it. Started thinking about getting the cd/cassette head and finishing out the system after market, finally decided to get the real deal from the factory after talking to a couple guys on this site and you know what...... Im glad I did because the sound is tremendous for a factory system and the price I paid for the whole package makes every note even sweeter to my ears as well as my wallet. I work with guys who have spent thousands on thier systems and I sound just as good as them, don't get me wrong I won't be winning any competions with this thing but If you have this option I recommend getting it.
The following information is from another thread:
The 6-disc in-dash player contains:
* Tune/seek/scan
* 6 AM/12FM presets
* Bass/treble/balance/fade
* Dedicated clock and frequency display
* 80-watt, 4-channel amplifier
* 7 speakers
* Speed-compensated volume control
* Mute
* Integral 6-CD player
* CD play/rewind/fast forward/eject
* CD Compression - activates a circuit that reduces the dynamic range of the CD to help overcome road noise. Compression works by reducing the volume of the loudest passages of music and by increasing the volume of the lowest level passages of music
* CD shuffle tracks on one disc (will not shuffle between discs)
* CD repeat/scan/previous/next
The Audiophile additions are:
* Audiophile Equalized Radio - optimized for each cab style. Driver or all-seat EQ selectable
* Digital Signal Processing (DSP) ambiance. This feature gives the feeling of "being there" to your music, creating increased clarity as well as an open and spacious feel to the music
* Subwoofer with 90-watt external amplifier
* Audiophile 2-way speaker system - optimally placed midrange and tweeter in each front door
* Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS) - the radio will decode the data stream broadcast by FM stations per the United States RBDS Standard from the National Association of Broadcasters. The radio supports:
- Show program service name
- Show format type
- Seek/scan for traffic program
- Seek/scan for format type
- Traffic announcement
- Emergency alert announcement
The basic (non-audiophile) system has 4 speakers. Two in the front doors, and two in the rear doors (at least for a SCab and SCrew, not sure about regular cab)

If you dont believe me, ask your dealer (assuming he is knowledgeable) or go outside yourself and count. I will be willing to bet you cant find 7 speakers or an amplifier. For those non-audiophiliers who think they have more than 4, either you benefitted from a factory error or you have audiophile and didn't realize it.
Trust me, I dont have audiophile, and I know what the non-audiophile 6 disc package does (and does not) come with. Had I not bought my truck off the lot, I would have been all over the audiophile for the added benefits like the subwoofer and tweeters that DO NOT come standard with the basic 6 disc

try this
I read this about this tip on a forum. As I said , this was someone else's tip so forgive me if it was on THIS forum.
This really makes a noticeable difference on the audiophile systems: 1. go to menu.
2. scroll down to "drivers seat only"
3. save that setting.
4. bam, big difference in sound quality
