Little things like this annoy me
I have noticed that my FX4 retains water! After a rain or a wash and letting the truck sit overnight, everything is bone dry. At least until I get in the drivers seat and notice the little area between the hood and the windshield. Right in front of the steering wheel where the washer nozzle is, a section of the vent panel is sealed. It is not really an issue, just annoying to see water sloshing around those little squares while I am driving. Does anyone know why that area is sealed?
guess I will have to pay more attention next time, don't guess I ever looked that closely while driving, but if you seen me drive you wouldn't want me to be looking for water in that area. My wife says I need to be looking at the road, guess that's why I don't see it.
Becareful if you see a white f150 on the side walk on a rainy day, it will be me looking at the water sloshing in the cowl.

this REALLY bothered me when i got my truck. it appeared to me that the reason that the "vents" were sealed in that area is to protect the windshield wiper motor which is located directly beneath from having water and debris falling directly on top of it.
I plan to fashion a shield out of sheet aluminum which will mount underneath the grill assembly and protect the motor and then drill small drain holes in each of the affected grill "openings".
to me this is THE most annoying thing about this vehicle.

It's the same thing on the roof indentations?
I Allways back out of my driveway and sure enough the water stripes down the windshield . I dont have a sunroof but i was thinking that if you did have one, would the water come in the sunfroof when this happens?

great for ****tails
In the winter months, this sealed tray area makes great little ice cubes for a vodka / tonic !!
Yes, it is annoying. Especially when you get done washing the
truck, chamois it dry, then drive it away just to see all the water
run down the door and fender.

I noticed that the first day I had my truck, back in November. I found it annoying too. The question is, "Why is it closed off?"

the roof indentations apparently keep the roof panels from flexing at high speeds. flexing causes a rumbling or moaning sound that wears the panels. the roof indentations give it some support.
and as for the moonroof, no water comes in. it is very well sealed. i don't think either of these are that big of a deal. i just go back with a dry cloth and dry the roof and the windshield panel when i am done washing it.
and cheers to the vodka tonics!

If it has rained and you open the sunroof before the grooves dry out, water will POUR into the cab of the truck. It's a nice wake up call to have it pour on your head at 6:00 am when it's 35 degrees outside.

I keep having the problem of water running down the front doors from, it looks like, inside the side mirrors. I have to keep drying it but I can't watch it all day so it leaves water spots. Annoying as hell.

every car has this issue, so does my sportbike
Right, the grooves in the roof are a structural thing, one big flat piece of metal isn't as strong as one with the grooves in it which help it to withstand more pressure and keep it from flexing at high speeds, like was said.
As far as the water concerns, I'm just glad the whole SuperCab side-window issue is finally gone. The '97 - '03 model SuperCab windows had water runoff from both outer edges that always left two streaks running down either side of the truck. No matter how much I washed/waxed those areas, those water marks became pretty much a permanent part of that vehicle. I am SO glad that won't bug me any longer!
