Bug Deflector

At one point, I saw an 04' F-150 with the bug shield I'd like to get.

I was low profile and followed the hood contour closely. It also had F-150 engraved? and painted in white block letters about 1/2" tall or so one one side just off center.

Can anyone confirm where I can buy one of these?

I'm buying a black truck and this one was smoked grey or black in color.

Thanks

I live in Canada and the ford dealer put one on just the way you described it.

Lund bug sheilds are bad news on the '04 F-one-fiddy.
They make the hood shake and the mirrors vibrate.
There is so much turbulance coming off the sheild, it sounds like a freight train.

HomeSkillet,

I test drove one a month or two ago, it was a salesman's ride and I noticed the hood shaking at highway speeds, I didn't even look if it had a bug shield, but it may have been a Lund.

I test drove the one I'm buying and did not have this issue.

That aint good, thanks for the heads up.

Here's the link these guys mentioned.

FYI... I had the same hood shake problem that skillet mentioned. My bug shield is made by Stampede, and I picked it up at a local truck accessories shop. It's a fairly high profile shield. Well I removed it today, and took about a 30 minute highway trip. Absolutely NO hood shake, and less noise.

To all those members looking at bug shields, I'd definitely suggest going with a low profile...may be better aerodynamically. I will not be re-installing mine, that's for sure.

Along with Home Skillet, I also noticed my hood shaking after I installed a Ventshade Buglector on my FX4 Screw. However, prior to installing the bug deflector my windshield looked like a bug graveyard after a 160 mile round trip to the lake. I think I can tolerate a little hood vibration for a clear windshield.

On a trip from OKC to Tulsa, the wind was blowing about 30 mph, and I was going 75 mph. At some points I actually thought the dang hood might just blow right off, or at least pop a weld or two. They type of hood shack I was seeing was not slight...

Does the Ford bugshield cause vibrations as well, or is it just the other aftermarket brands? I'd really like to get the Ford one (low profile), but not if it's going to create issues.

Thanks,
E

I installed the factory Ford bug shield on my truck and have had none of the problems you guys have had. No mirror shake, no hood shake, nothing. Buy the factory one and don't worry about it.
