Bug Deflector
I called the local dealer that sold me the Stampede, and they are going to replace it with a low profile model. They have to order a few first. I'll post and let you know how it works out. Hopefully the hood shake will go away, as I really like the build quality of the Stampede and the functionality of a bug deflector.
By the way, this is the second one this dealer has had returned for the exact same reason.

I checked out a site that sells these and I wasn't crazy about the EGR's. Maybe I missed a model or two.....
From what I could tell, I'd choose the low profile one that Ford has in the brochure.

Sorry I didn't get back to you regarding the cost of the paint protection. The total price (upper and lower painted bumper surfaces, lower hood & upper fnt. fenders, headlights and fog lights) was about $294 installed. Quite a bit of money but considering that the kits alone would have been more expensive than that AND considering that it was professionally installed by the owner of the company, I was OK with it. No, there are no bubbles although initially, the headlights had foggy spots until the alcohol used evaporated off.
Just got off the phone with Lund, they are going to warranty out my interceptor bug deflector, purchased 10.23.03. They have a new design out, suppose to take care of the hood, and mirror shake.
My hood shook alot at 70+ mph.

skiultr...go to www.truktoys.com/products/EGRShield.asp for a photo of the Carbon Fiber shield (albeit on a Chevy). Click on 'zoom' on the photo to see how the color/texture of the Carbon Fiber appears. On the '04 F150, the shield follows the raised contour of the hood, not level as the Chevy photo indicates.

Just talked to my LUND dealer about the same issue...shake...he called LUND as we spoke and LUND says the are aware of the issue but have NO NEW DESIGN. They recommended using the low profile Lund Avenger. My LUND dealer ordered one for a no charge swap so we will see how it looks first. I also sent a tech support request to LUND but have heard nothing!!!!

Hi again guys, I ment to post you last week after I replyed to this post. I contact LUND after my post..... the very nice lady there said that I was the FIRST person to complain according to their data base. She did take my information/complaint and told me that my dealer was a good customer of theirs (Weathers) and that they would refund or replace the shield if I returned it to them. So it looks like they are working with all of us, and that a good thing to see a company like that stand up for minor boo-boo.

Cr@p!! I did my homework a little to late. Looks like it's been a while since any updates here, but I'll add my own recent experience.
I bought and installed the LUND Inteceptor bugshield, then searched the forum for bugshields. After finding out about the hood shakes, I was very nervous that the problem hasn't been corrected. So off to the highway. Sure enough, at 65 there's minor shaking, and at 75 it's extremely noticable!
I was going to uninstall it and exchange it. After thinking about it overnight, I'm going to leave it on. The truck is used 85% in town, 14% towing a trailer, which leaves about 1% cruising down the highway. Our road debris in Alaska is pretty significant, so I think it would be better having a higher profile deflector to help catch all those pebbles. If I were to do it over again though, I'd go with the Ford deflector. Live and learn.

now im not sure if mine is considered a low pro or a high pro deflector, but from the looks of it i'd say it was the later of the two...anyways the shield is made by Stampede. and i do drive like a bat outta hell...and have yet to see any hood shakes for the past 2k miles..

I luv the EGR Carbon Fiber deflector on my XLT and continue to be approached often with compliments. It's a perfect match to Ford's Shadow and Silver colors. Being high profile, it's easy to wash and wax under it...no hood shakes either. Pics at:

Be careful everyone, the Ford website mentioned here does not have a bug shield for the real 2004 F150 only the Heritage. You have to be careful on that on other web sites also for any parts. Leave it to Ford to mess with you and have 2 totally different vehicles of the same model year. Been burned by this already.
