Question Excessive Brake Dust

Guys, new to the forums here but I figured it would be a good place to see if anyone else has noticed the excessive brake dust on their front wheels (similiar to the Expedition and Navigators you see with black wheels)........

If anyone else has noticed this or has found shields that fit the wheels I'd appreciate the response.

Thanks.

I noticed a lot of dust during the first 500 miles (city driving) or so but it cut back dramatically. How many miles do you have on it? Either way I'd wait a few months for things to break in before you did anything drastic.

Brake Dust threads

PaulH2U,

There have been several threads about the brake dust in this forum. The threads below may be helpful...the 1st one has some discussion about brake dust shields.

Good luck,

Every Ford vehicle I can think of has bad brake dust problems.

Skip the shields and get better brake pads. Bendix Titanium are better overal and don't break the bank. However, I do not know what is avilible for the 2004 F-150. May be the same as 03+ Expedition, though.

Brake dust, Brake dust, and more Brake dust...

You would think Ford would address such an easy issue as this brake dust. Putting such crappy pads on high volume (flagship) vehicles such as the Expedition and new F150 isn't doing anything good for the Quality image that they are supposedly working on.

I too have used bendix pads with much better results.

Thanks for the help guys. I've only had the truck for 2 weeks now (300 miles) but I noticed it right away......pretty neurotic about a clean truck! I've also got an '02 Screw Lariat 4x4 my wife drives and the problem is no where near as bad on hers.

I'm going to check the local parts stores for the Bendix Titanium pads..........I'll post what I find (price, availability, etc.).

Thanks

has anyone priced out brake pads for the 04s? I would be curious to see what it would cost to replace them

Does anyone know who supplies the stock pads. I believe it is an Asian company(cheap..cheap) that supplies the Expy Pads to Bosch that leave you with Black Wheels.
I noticed the brake dust going down after the first 500-800 miles on my 2004 Fx4.

I noticed the brake dust problem on my '04 FX4 SCrew right away after I picked it up on 11/15/2003. However, I now have almost 2000 miles on it already (three long road trips), and the dust problem appears to have gone away. In my opinion, get some miles on your new '04 before doing anything drastic.
