I noticed on my drivers side rear door 2 spots, both about the size of a hand. I just figured that they were from the car wash guy not wiping the water off. Then I looked a little closer... Holy Smokes!! They are under the clear coat, it kind of looked like that guys photos that had the body shop really screw up his paint job.

Thankfully the rest of my truck looks ok, but I am really struggling as to what I should do. I know if I take it back to the dealership they would re-paint the door, but do I really want to have one door repainted? This is an all black Lariat. I could probably live with it because it is only noticeable in direct light. What would you guys do?

Paint - Clearcoat

I have noticed on mine that when I wash it and then dry it, there is a difference.

When I run the drying cloth over the paint, it is baby smooth from the tailgate to the front doors. Once I hit the front fenders and hood, it is scratchy as hell. You can HEAR the difference and you can HEAR the cloth go over the paint.

Now that is definitely poor quality!

I have silver Scab. When I washed for the first time I noticed that entire truck has sparatic black specs. Could be overspray or tar. Comes off with tar remover and elbow grease.

As I stated in my post, #2. The paint on the edge of the front passenger door (right below the window) must have been nicked prior to the clearcoat. Very noticeable. I thought of having some type of graphics put on. I just don't like the idea of having a body shop sanding on my new truck. Also I was told since mine is silvermetallic if it was repainted within a year it would look two shades different. The rest I could live with. I wished I had a digi to take some pics.

Ford is using the WOW system, first developed for the F250 and F350, on the new 2004 F150. WOW is a wet-on-wet system that allows Ford to paint two colors of paint on a vehicle with only one pass through the paint booth. So, while the system is relatively new, the paint should be similar to any F-series truck of the last couple of years. Here's an article with more info:

http://www.detnews.com/2003/autoscon.../g01-17573.htm

BTW, there is a sweet pic of a '65 F100 in that article. Ford should have used this template (much higher seperation line) for their 2004 two tone paint jobs IMHO.

DJ
