Question Another FX4 Question

As I mentioned in a previous post, I ordered a new FX4 on 11/18. I have since asked the dealer about the 35 gal fuel tank. He says you have to order the payload pkg to get it. Is this correct, or is it BS? Also, can you change the specs on a trk once ordered??

I got the 36 gallon tank.

You should be able to get it also.

Mine is FX4 Supercab 6.5' Bed.

Can't get it on Supercrew.

Let me know if you need more info.

You should be able to change the order if it is not locked yet.

If it's not true - it shoudl be... An extra 8 gallons of fuel adds a good bit of weight to the back of your truck. I don't know about the "payload package" but if he's talking about the higher GVWR packages, I would recommend getting that if you have the bigger tank and are going to use the bed to it's full capacity and/or tow.

8 gallons add 50lbs. Nothing to worry about.

This is from the order guide. Looks like you dealer has it backwards. The 35.6 fuel tank is required if you get the payload pkg...

35.7 Gallon –Opt. w/ Reg. Cab 8' and Super Cab w/6.5' boxes (XL, STX, XLT, FX4,
Lariat) – required w/Heavy Duty Payload Pkg (627) on Regular and SuperCab 4x4
w/ 8' box, opt. on 4x2 (XL/XLT only)

every vehicle has a payload package depending on which engine you get. payload package is not to be confused with trailer tow package or any other package. it is just a definition of how much weight your truck can tow/haul based on engine, gears, bed, wheels, etc. if you go to www.fordvehicles.com and click to build your vehicle, when you get to the page labeled "Power" you will see it listed at the bottom of the options under the axle ratio.

there is something called the Heavy Duty Payload package that is available only on reg cab 8' bed XLs. this comes with 4.10 gearing. obviously you do not want this, you want an FX4.

either your dealer is confused or stupid, we will leave you to decide which.

you should have no problem changing your order. it's been less than 2 weeks. go for it. and if you haven't already ordered it on your truck, get the Trailer Tow Package. it is more than worth it even if you don't tow.

If everyone got the book from the dealer, they'd be able to find out what they can get on what, by looking in the back. Everyone should get the book. Plus it gives you something to look at while you take a dump.

As BrewMaster mentioned - all of them have "payload packages" - they just vary by what options you have. To have the same suspension calibrated in a reg cab short bed with small tank the same as in a supercab longbed with the large tank would be poor for ride quality.
