Jackrabbit Tonneau Anyone?

Trying to decide what cover to put on a FX4 SC. We camp quite a bit and need to lock down the bed to keep out varmits. The fiberglass hard covers seem like they would be a pain to remove for hauling big stuff.

I'm leaning toward the retractable unless someone has better advice......

Hi stook,
I just installed the Jackrabbit on my supercrew. All I can say is WOW! It looks like vinyl, but has steel underneigth.

Haven't took any pictures yet, but it is supposed to be pleasant this W/E so maybe I can get outside and take a few.

I considered a jackrabbit at first, then a roll & lock, finally bought a retrax after comparing them all. Gonna put it on this weekend.

Thanks For the Feedback!

Guys,

Sounds like you installed yourself (or are going to). How did that go or would you recommend? Are your covers power operated?

Thanks again and pics would be great! My truck should be here next week, from other posts it sounds like I am going to be one happy guy.

I would thoroughly read http://www.rolltopcover.com if I were you. In fact, I was in the same postion a short while back. I checked out all the covers for my new F-150. I don't like the JackRabbit because I can see the vinyl getting worn out and torn easily. the JackRabbit is not steel underneath like mwildeusa said, it's extruded aluminum. strong, but not as strong as steel. Retrax is polycarbonate (Lexan) with aluminum rods going thorugh. as a material scientist, I'll take the composite without the vinyl. No doubt the JackRabbit will be good, but I know mine will get abused, so I am opting for the Retrax. Now I just gotta sort out the money to buy the Retrax...

I was going to wait for Varsacover but Retrax looks nice too. Do they have one for 2004 F150 version available?? What is the cost? I will think about it instead of Varsacover as it's going to take a while till it's ready.

TIA

Bought the Jack-rabbit , I'm a contractor and needed this set up ,installed it myself single handed ,though I would recomend another set of hands. Took about 2 hours to complete. Now if only my bed-rug would come. Got Jack-rabbit on line for $661, Bed-rug $299, if it ever makes it. I really like it for what I do.

I've been looking into all of the roll up and retractable tonneau covers, too. I plan on ordering the Retrax on Monday.

Bholder - where'd you order the bedrug from? I haven't been able to find them available anywhere. I sent Bedrug sales an e-mail on friday asking if they were going out to dealers/distributors already, but they haven't replied yet.

Thanks,
John

Extang RT

I installed my Extang RT in about 45 minutes. Very nice fit and I thought it was an economical solution and definitely wanted a rolltop. Cost $299.99 plus $45 delivery.

Thumbs up Got my Retrax installed today

I just finished installing it today. Didn't take pics yet, truck is dirty & sky is dark. I have a pendaliner bed liner that had to be modified with a roto-zip to get a good fit, but it's in. I also like the lexan over the vinyl, seems like it will last longer in the elements, the truck will be stored outside. I am very happy with how quick it arrived. The order was submitted tues. am., arrived thur. pm.

I will post pics tomorrow after the truck gets a wash.

Anyone considering one of these covers I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you order through JDMnAR, a authorized retrax dealer that is a great guy to do business with an a fellow F150online member.

Gotta give this one a bannana

Whitesnake: Now that you have installed the Retrax, how hard would it be to remove and install it, and is it possible to remove only the canister and not the bed rails? I'm still looking for a retractable or folding hard cover that's easy to remove.

All you would have to do is unbolt 4 clamps t o remove the whole thing. You would have to do that to remove just the canister. It would be easiest with 2 people, but possible with just 1.
